My Racedeck story

Well, I am just about recovered from doing my racedeck install last week. I took a few days off work since I had some time I had to use before the end of the year. The racedeck arrived at my house Wednesday afternoon and I did the install on Thursday. By far, the hardest part was moving everything out of the garage and back in. If I had to do it again I would have asked for help moving all of my stuff, once its outside I wanted to get it back in as quickly as possible and I really had to hustle. These old bones just don't like manual labor any more.

The floor was epoxy, if you can call it that, coated with the do it yourself rustoleum kit from homedepot. It was the first thing I did to my house before I moved in. Clearly this is before I found the garage journal or I would have either used a commercial epoxy or did the racedeck before I put anything in the garage.

I still have some final tweaks to make. In hindsight I would have measured better and thought it through more thoroughly. I didnt do a bad job, but I dont think I did as well as I could have. I have a 4" gap where the floor meets the gas curb. I have plenty of tiles to cut down to fill this in, but should I use another 3" edge tile there instead? Just my own internal debate.

Anyways, here are the pictures. I didn't get any with everything back in the garage but I will take some tonight and post them up tomorrow.

Questions, comments, and constructive criticism are always welcome.

Thanks everyone! Here are a couple more during the installation pictures. I will get a finished picture tonight. I think I need to get some of the LED lights everyone is talking about in the hot deals section.

In my case, I just carefully cut the extra tiles to fill the gap. In fact, I had ordered some for that. I don't even notice that there are cut partials there at the edge. I don't think anyone else does, either.

The edge tiles are not expensive, though, so whatever you want....

Great improvement. There was SO MUCH stuff in the driveway. Luckily, lots of it seems to be on wheels. How was it getting the rolling stuff up and onto the RD?

-Brent-, thank you for the nice comments. I have a lot of stuff in my garage but I pride myself in being very efficient in storing them. I have used some ideas from Garage Journal as well to make sure I can stuff as much as possible in there.

I wanted almost everything on wheels so if I ever had to do this it wouldnt be too bad. I learned a valuable lesson here. DO NOT BUY CHEAP CASTERS. The casters from harbor freight are all cheap. Dont even use them for light duty applications. They will work for a while but do not last. I am going to be replacing a lot of casters this winter.

My tool box, not pictured well here, is huge. I made it out of two industrial cabinets and it is VERY heavy. I have nice colson casters on it and it rolls reasonably well given its weight and size. This was the only item I had problems moving on the racedeck. even with the transition pieces (edging) it just didnt want to get started rolling. I used a combination of brute force, help from a neighbor (couldnt have done it without him, and my floor jack. Once all of the wheels (6) were on the floor it rolled much better. It was just getting it up there that was a problem. The cement leading up to my garage door is not perfect and that was really the major obstacle.

I will put up a finished picture tonight. I am very impressed with everyone at RaceDeck and their product. Anyone on the fence needs to order the product and decide for themselves. I couldnt be happier.

Thank you Bleacht. The cabinets are holding up. They arent the best in the world but I have them jam packed with all sorts of stuff and they havent collapsed yet. When I moved them they twisted a little bit. I am happy with them for what I paid for them. If I ever cam across a deal on some beefier cabinets I would switch them out.

No worries Arnbarn, It is an RF-30. I am no machinist by any means but it is really nice to cut metal sideways every now and then. I have limited tooling and acquire it as needed for a project. I just like to goof around and tinker. I picked it up for a couple hundred, disassembled, cleaned, painted, and put back together. Its a nice little machine for my garage. I even built a custom stand that allows me to store stuff underneath it.

Here is the 64' "MaliBoost' we have, it sits on a RoadsterShop Fastrack chassis, Twin Turbo LS putting down 1000+ to the wheels ( pump gas) . Right now we are doing some custom work ( new paint, engine mods, interior, et , at Kindig-It )
