Here are some pics of my new Racedeck floor in my new garage. The garage is 24 X 28 and the only resident is my 66 Mustang GT fastback. We moved to this new home in Ohio back in June and I’m just now getting around to working on the garage. It does have the look of a showplace type garage because my two year restoration on this car is complete and another car is in the distant future. There will be some light weight wrenching for sure but no welding or painting. I figure when I do find that 70 Mach I to fill the other bay I can always pull up part of the floor.
I won’t bore you with installation details, that has been covered here at length in other posts. Let’s just say I did it myself, easy to do and actually a fun project. I also won’t go into the “flooring wars” discussion; Racedeck was the solution that seemed to best fit my requirements.
This is a fantastic product. Ordering was a pleasure; the Racedeck folks were friendly and helpful. Got the GJ price which is a great deal, make sure you mention that you are a member! My order arrived in less than a week. All boxes showed up the same day and the order was exactly what it was supposed to be. The tiles are neatly boxed and come out clean and ready to install. There is no plastic residue or slag in the boxes from the production and packaging process. Quality control is evident. I did not receive any damaged tiles and all fit together perfectly. I managed to slightly damage only one tile and that was my fault and the tile is still fine and could be used. Folks, it’s hard to mess this up.
I did have a lot of tiles to trim on two sides of the garage because I wanted a finished look. Hated to cut up good tiles to get pieces less then 4 inches wide but it couldn’t be helped. I made sure to leave about a half inch gap between the tiles and the wall on all walls. To finish the look, I painted the exposed brick at the bottom of each wall red and used 4 inch black vinyl wall base to hide the gaps. The wall base is not glued yet, need to have a couple of days of 65 degree weather for the glue (not in Ohio anytime soon!) so they are just leaning against the walls for now.
Went with a black and alloy checkerboard pattern for the parking area, outlined in a row of red and a row of black. The walking and work areas are charcoal grey, also outlined in black. The tiles do make the garage darker but knew that would happen and my lighting is pretty good. I considered white but the Racedeck folks did not recommend it due to the additional work to keep it clean.
The tiles do make a clacking sound when you walk on them. I don’t care about that, not a big deal. I think the floor looks great and I moved everything you see in the garage myself with no signs of any scratches at all. This is a quality product, made right here in the USA. I am a new owner but from what I have seen, I highly recommend Racedeck to anyone. Not knocking any of the other quality alternatives found on this site but you owe it to yourself to at least consider this quality product!
