My SK Warranty Experience

So "lots" of people complain that SK's warranty is complete junk and they don't warranty this or that, and that you have to pay for shipping both ways (or sometimes one way) etc. Now some of those stories it was in doubt whether the tools had been abused, it was the original warranty, and what company it was done under (pre ideal or Ideal). So I decided to document my warranty progress!

I purchased two hex bits new from NTX tools, and then a Metric and SAE stubby wrench set from Tooltopia. The metric set I got was definetely new stock from Ideal era and was great. The SAE set looked like it had been pieced together of two pre-ideal wrenches and the rest made under Ideal (as a side note, the "SK" stamping was different). The two pre-ideal wrenches were developing rust spots. The hex bits were both extremely rusty. The 19MM was also loose and didn't look like it was ever properly machined. The other was just slightly rusty-but it was new.

So.... I emailed SK service (Wednesday). They responded the next day(Thursday) , asked me for the tool part numbers, and then emailed me a UPS label telling me to enclose a brief note to detail what is wrong with the tools. I shipped it off Friday, it arrived there Tuesday, and they turned around quickly and sent me a package that same day. It just arrived!

4 new tools, no cost to me all in about a week!

I don't see any complaint here!

Friend has a thumbwheel ratchet he likes a lot. Pre-Ideal or current IDK.

It's been awhile but IIRC it locked up one way and he asked me to look at it. I disassembled it and called SK. The lady offered to send me a rebuild kit. I said if I need it, will call you back.

Got it fixed by flipping a pawl or was it two pawls? Anyway she would have sent a rebuild kit I'm certain had I needed it.

Nice. The rep was here,....Monday or Tuesday with new vocational sets they are pushing for students. Also, told me the truck was going to be in town in a couple of weeks, in case we wanted it to go by any of our customer's stores, etc. I'm liking the new Sk. Not really any problems to gripe about.

I just bought a 15 piece set of metric wrenches yesterday from the local dealer. I asked him about the warranty, and he said if he can read SK and the serial number, that I hand him the broken one, and he hands me a brand new one with no questions asked. Seems fair enough to me. I did spend a little more in his shop vs Amazon, but I like having a local dealer that will let me fondle the tools etc..... And I love my new SK stuff. After only having craftsman, to me it was a big step up!

My dad has a 1/4" ratchet that is at least 40 years old (I'm 45) and has been well used. I called S-K and asked about where to get a repair kit.....and to make sure the new ones would fit. Not only do they fit the 40 y/o ratchet (and older ones as well), they sent me the kit no charge the next day.

What was the email you used to contact SK for the warranty? I contacted them over the phone a couple months ago and all I was told is where to send it in but didn't get any UPS label?

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to mirror the OP's experience a bit. This weekend, I bought an SK 3870 (10-3/4" roto-head 3/8" drive ratchet) at the local flea for $5 in good condition, but with a broken ball detent. Because I bought it broken, I didn't want to ask for a warranty repair, and emailed SK (Sunday night) via their online contact form asking where I could purchase a rebuild kit. This morning (Tuesday) I received a personal response stating that they had shipped me a rebuild kit, free of charge. I replied with a thank you, and immediately received a "you're very welcome" reply from the same customer service rep. Very impressed.

I have had zero problems with sk's warranty. I just stuff everything in a box and mail it to them. My experience is typically 2 weeks or quicker. They are becoming the great company they once were. It's nice to see them succeed.

I'm a big SK fan as well. I hope they slow down on the free parts until they get some distribution going!

Is there any chain outlet that handles their line? Where can you go to buy a new tool?

To buy new SK I just go straight to tooltopia, I've tried a few different zip codes in their dealer locator and all I come up with is various Grainger locations. Sad because I really wish there were somewhere I could go if I needed a new wrench, socket, etc. Right now and be able to purchase a quality USA made product.

I had a local dealer when I lived in Minnesota. If I had a warranty socket they would send it in for me, they did not have items to exchange in the store, only compete sets. Took a while too because they waited till they had a bunch to send in.

That being said they are a great brand. I wish I had a local store here.
