My Small But Growing 1/4" drive Socket Set Collection

I'm not much of a collector, so only have my Snap-on red box set from my road box, and my Proto box set from my rollaway; it's actually surplus because I have snap on 1/4" drive stuff in there also.

But, do have a nice 9/32 set; including all 3 adaptors. 1/4 to 9/32, 9/32 to 1/4, and 9/32 to 3/8.

Come to think of it, I have a williams boxed set also in my 1950's top chest. Haven't seen it for awhile, so have forgotten about it.

Here are some unmarked sockets I put in an unmarked box with some unmarked drive tools. These have been discussed before with the consensus being that they may have been made by Indestro, but so far nobody can say for sure. The reason that I’m posting them is that I saw a similar set on eBay with a rather unique box. The first two pictures are of my unmarked set, the last three are of the eBay set.

^ As I noted in a previous message, that first set looks familiar. I have one very similar to that (sockets and breaker only) but it's plain black finish, not plated.

The second (Ebay) set looks like Indestro sockets with who-knows-what kind of T-bar. The box looks like New Britain/None Better more than the same shape box made by Indestro or Blackhawk (but I'm only leaning to NB on that one because of the olive green color and the divider inside the box.) (Note, however, that both NB catalog listings say it's a black box.)(All three made 1/2" hex drive sets in that style box.)

Somewhere on this site is a list that was put together by GJ member PowderKeg showing the different brands that were stamped on New Britain (Kilness patent) ratchets. I recall it was something north of 30 names.

I don't know if you guys actually USE those sockets, but my 1/4" set is probably the MOST USED tool I own.

I am looking for a small box that will hold all of my standard depth SAE and Metric sockets extensions, universals, drivers, etc. I have been using an old blow mold Craftsman plastic box, but it is starting to fall apart.

Suggestion ?

You can usually find some older Snap-On socket boxes on E-bay for fairly reasonable prices.

I picked up this box a while back and turned it into my 3/8" and 1/4" mixed drive user metric set.

no idea on the first two. I would imagine same maker as the third one.

I hope nobody minds me asking this on this thread but it seems there's a lot of 1/4" drive experts following this. Picked up two flex spinners with some other stuff and neither has a makers mark. The only difference between the two is the handles, all metal parts are identical. The yellow one is marked "USA", no markings (at least none remaining) on the amber one. Thanks

The chunkiest! I have the spinner and sliding tee. Kicking myself, though. After looking at your sockets and looking at Odes' again I am pretty sure I left them behind. There was no case and the spinner and sliding tee were in a mess of other tools and junk in a box but I think the sockets were in there too and I ignored them. They have that "economical" G.M. Co. look to me, if you know what I mean. See Odes' post #316 for more pics, which he posted in reply to my request to help ID my spinner and sliding tee. I hope he sees all this because he never did post a photo of the top of his lid. Now I am wondering if it was also a Navy Bureau of Aeronautics set. I will have to keep my eyes peeled now at the fleas on the other side of the state. These all surely came out of the Philly Navy Yard.

Quick addendum: those may be NAF part numbers, not Phila Mfg Co part numbers. I'm in the parking lot at my flea, but I will check my wartime Navy ASO Catalog later. Unless Don or Unaiu get to it first. They have copies. Or someone can check the numbers against the Plomb sets. They'd be the same numbers.

Your box definitely has the Williams look with the cut corners on the lid and the layout of the dividers. I imagine that it came with a conventional extension rather than the NM-110 that OTG kindly sent me yesterday for my set.

The orange label is Williams color scheme, too. I remember saying that the first time I saw it over on the G.

We might as well complete the trifecta by adding a pic of one of the Plomb versions of the same exact Navy set. (See Tin Medic's below.)

Of the three examples we have seen - Phila Mfg Co, Williams, and Plomb - Plomb's labeling schemes are the most elaborate. None of the other mfgrs marked their tools with the NAF numbers, either, and by deduction, Plomb probably dropped the practice as well, since we've seen Plomb sets without the NAF numbers marked on them. Whether it was no longer required, or Plomb's prerogative, I don't know.

I don’t picture of the outside of the box and there no label on the outside but all the paint is gone to it is the same set I have no doubts
