How much work was it to restore the pump?
I'm looking at getting something like yours as well.

It took about 2 weeks of nights and week ends . There was a lot of hammering on all the stainless steel panels to get all the dents out . I used a flap disc to remove the paint on the front and back panels and Rustoleum aerosols to paint the Red and white .
I also spent a lot of time with a buffer to polish all the metal pieces on the pump .

You should do one , you'd enjoy it .

The epoxy still looks great after a year . It is showing no sign of wear at all . It does have a few blisters , but since I have the flecks , they're virtually
invisible.

This garage should really be a feature garage, as it really showcases what can be accomplished in a small space . The pump also adds to the decor.

Did you have to do any work on the metal , which looks like chrome or stainless?

The metal , which is all stainless took a fair amount of time to straighten out. As I mentioned the pump was not used since the 80's and it looked liked some body had intentionally tried to dent most of the panels , especially the top .It looked like somebody had repeatedly hit it with a ball pein hammer . I used different shaped pieces of wood and several different sized hammers to get it straight . The front panels ,that are removable to service the computing mechanism and the pumps were really rough . At some point somebody had covered them with a vinyl overlay type decal , then painted over top. When I finally got it down to bare metal , I realized the panels had also been badly dented . So out came the Bondo and I filled and sanded both sides .
The rest of the trim looks like cast aluminum and I used a buffer to polish it.

I've been lurking on this site for some time and your garage is the one that has really got me fired up . This should be the bench mark for all builders of smaller garages .

I have been following this thread for some time and I always come back to it for more ideas and such . This bench top is one of the best I've seen and was accomplished very easily by the sound of it . I'll definitely be using this process when I finally get around to replacing the old particle board on my bench.

I had my bench top quoted and it was over $1,500.00 to have it formed and welded . I used 89Vert's idea and it looks great .

I'll post some photos when I'm able .

I built a mock up from scrap plywood to get the dimensions right .They are :

73 " Height
44 " wide
44" deep

The cabinet fits two mountain bikes with no problem.They are hung from large hooks from the back wall so they clear the floor . There's still enough room for my Shop Vac and small compressor .

I just registered ,after lurking around for a while . I'm about to begin my single car unit that's attached to my townhouse . This example is what really inspired me . I think that 89Vert has done an incredible job with a small amount of space and it it looks like it has been really well thought out .

There are so many great ideas here that I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'm going to copy most of them , especially the neat way he did his stainless bench tops .Not to mention the cabinet for the bikes and compressor . The diamond plate also was a unique touch that i have not seen anywhere else.

For a relatively small space , there is just so much detail and cool factor that I hope that mine turns out half as good .

Is there any chance that you can post any more photos ?
