OP: Snap On stands by their products, and offered you a new replacement, which you turned down. You then signed up to GJ just to share your butthurt over having to take a little initiative. Ironically, taking initiative to solve problems, then sharing your successes with others is what GJ is all about, your post would have been better received had you simply said "hey, did you know that a back plate from a new ratchet fits perfectly on an obsolete SO ratchet? Here's why I know that..." and left out all the drama.

Saying hello and introducing yourself before jumping into the forums is showing respect to the people who have made this a valuable resource. Nearly every forum on the internet has a newcomers page for noobs to say hello, that should always be your first post.

Sorry for your loss.
BEST POST! He OP has had his pride hurt & I guess he's the type that can't deal with that well. I doubt he'll show his face here under that username but if he can take one thing away from this thread it should be the above post. Learn to deal with a new community and not look foolish or abrasive. Wise words above, had he taken that approach he'd probably be a regular GJ'er.

I didn't read all of the replies. With that said here is what to do. Buy a similar one on Ebay and use parts from it to fix yours. Next, warranty the bad one. Then either keep it to use on rough jobs or then sell it. Problem solved. Maybe I am old, but I believe in solving problems with no drama or B.S. Everybody is happy.

I believe Snap On went above and beyond what was necessary that their customer service is excellent, just goes to prove how GOOD SO is.
And PS that Dual 80 is better than that old snap on ratchet

Best bet find a snap on dealer

This is what i would have done . I have a snap on tools truck account . I would have givin the ratchet to my Snap on person . They would have took it and in a week they would have givin it back to me repaired. I have done this many times with broken or old worn out snap on tools. Everytime i got the tool back repaired or replaced 100% free of charge. Some of the tools were 19 yrs old and destroyed completely. Even a shoplight that was crushed from a lowered lift . They gave me a brand new one. Though in your case if the ratchet couldnt be repaired i would tell them to return it and not replace it if it is special to you . Another thing you can do is search ebay or amazon for a used ratchet thats the same or has the same parts . Buy the used one and swap the parts out . A ratchet isnt really very hard to repair inside.
Hope that helps.:shocking:

Sounds like the OP wanted personalized service from customer support. I think he would have had a different outcome had he took the time to find a local snap-on driver and explain his goal to him. Ever driver I have dealt with has went out of his way to fix tools I inherited and never charge me anything. I don’t have a snap-on truck account or a regular driver but have always had good experiences.
