My neighbor gave me some of his old tools and in them was this ratchet. I'm still cleaning it up but I haven't been able to find any brand markings on it. Any ideas of where to look?

Thanks guys!

Head crimp, selector lever and drive plug look Duro. The handle is throwing me off though.
Beneath the rust on the cover plates you may find markings.

Username - you're correct! Thank you. Mr. McNaught was a founder of DuroChrome/Indestro and that ratchet is dated c. 1933.

You're welcome. That's a neat looking ratchet. I don't have one myself...yet.

Looks like Ganymede was pretty much spot on as well. All the similarities with Duro Metal made ratchets makes perfect sense with the McNaught connection.

Indestro / Duro-Chrome.

I'm inclined to think Indestro on that model because of the handle design.
From other comments here about that model (and a couple others) I am also inclined to think it was made for one of their private-label accounts or possibly a military/GSA contract.

see the "Duro Ratchet?" thread HERE: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36699

see posts # 45, 46, 57, and 61

from what I have been able to suss out, it's a model 677, the drive adapter is a model 3215 (the mushroom-head one with the knurling)

patent number is the give-away: 1902878
the patent was issued 1933 - that's not necessarily an indication that the unit itself is that old. they used that design (and patent number) clear up into the late 1950s (or early 1960s). my model # 3201 uses the same patent number as well.
