Ok after contacting them via email, and a quick response it appears the intro5off was for the first 150 customers, then it reverts to .95 cents, however they did mention they are looking into this forum due to all of the traffic in the last couple days

Hopefully they load up the GJ boxes with good stuff hoping we drive future sales...that would be the smart thing to do.

hah, thats actually pretty funny... well if they stop by they better understand that this forum is their best bet for making this business model work. as long as the items are ACTUALLY good, or even decent items with a reasonable "list" price, and not a single socket thrown into a box because it was listed at 50 on grainger for an armstrong socket, then i think we will be just fine. hell if i get my moneys worth i don't see why i wouldn't be able to buy them as gifts for other tool guys.

you won't find many other places where guys are willing to spend more for small pieces of metal than a woman in a jewelry store.

Y'all almost got me.

Then I realized my tool wants and needs are pretty specific at this point.

Random mystery box of likely Chinese clearance items would have a low probability of being useful.

I like the concept though.

It sounds like a great promotion for Epsteins...

"Random mystery USA made tool box."

I could see it getting added to lots of orders, and they could have fun clearing the dark corners of their basement.

at the rate I see people trying to unload these on craigslist and flea markets, the thought crossed my mind. Didn't find anything on a google but 6 hits all starting the other day, so I'd like to see where this goes. Even the about them page is way too vague.

hence why everybody pays with paypal. if the product is not as described, ie, they end you 10 bucks of chinese tools and try to play a markup game by showing some site that is ovepriced on everything, ie, listing HF free screwdrivers as a 15 dollar set, return the thing and paypal refunds you. then they probably won't do much more business when the thread erupts and is one google search away from bankruptcy for the "company". just sayin

agreed! I like to think that my glass is half full however

I'm sure the owners of this company are paying very close attention to this thread and won't risk mutiny on their first set of orders.

Hey Rocket, I just have to know for sure, is your Avatar picture YOU? Or is it just someone you would like to know? If it is YOU, then you are quite the hottie! - Paul

Sorry guys. This is why we don't normally let Paul out of the Menards Deals thread.

I feel that I am in the minority here. I don't have any money in my PayPal at the moment so I used my CC. If I end up getting a box of junk HF or similar stuff I'll just gift it to a friend and take it as a lesson not to buy mystery boxes in the future.

I wonder if the influx of recent, likely unexpected orders will impact the quality of tools we receive or if 'they' have enough inventory to cover it.

Save yourself hassles and link an account to paypal. Easy payments with added payment protection. Theres no charge on your end for the middleman protection either

This. It's under $20. I'm not too worried at this price point. I hope it's nice and not cheap junk, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I'm not much of a gambler but sometimes a "Surprise package" for less than $20 is nice to get.
It may be junk but I've gotten some pretty fun junk to play with once in a while.
Even if it only provides a little amusement for a few minutes, the apprehension of a surprise is enough to help spark my holiday cheer a bit.

Nothing for me yet maybe they will get shipped out Monday I don't think they would do all that to scam a couple people out of $20 dollars.

a couple, if they got a few hundred thats still 4000 bucks for 200 bucks in web fees... lol

people who scam typically have multiple things going on at the same time.

we will see..

IF IF IF IF IF IF IF it was a scam, was that enough IF's trying to convey the point that there is a level of doubt. Anyway, IF it was a scam it had less than NOTHING to do with the $20, it had everything to do with getting CC info, Paypal info and email addresses.

To be fair, they actually noted on the product page that what you are getting is a legitimate box of poop. They didn't try and hide it. It just shows how little people read about the things they buy, especially when it's the trendy gift.

FWIW - Cards Against Humanity might be the best drunk card game ever...

To be fair those who bought it made a wise investment, they paid $6, and they now sell on eBay for $20-30 shipped...

I emailed asking for an update, hoping maybe some information will be sent along Monday. I'll share the response here if/when I hear from them assuming nothing has been said publicly.

Just got this email from them.

Good Afternoon,

We have been packing the boxes over the past few days and the first batch is being picked up tomorrow morning. You should have a tracking number in 2-3 days.

Best Regards,

Mystery Toolbox Team

man... slow shipping company lol.. must be two guys in a garage packing tons of boxes by hand after getting a crapload of orders for mystery junk.

honestly, as long as it's good.... imagine what you could do with a mystery flea market box? 25-30 bucks, gets you whatever fits in the box from local fleamarkets!

They have a January mystery toolbox posted now, $39. Doesn't take the INTRO5 coupon code.

So maybe you guys got a great deal on the December mystery box for $20 and coupon code.

Can't wait to see some pictures posted. I didn't order.

I like that they didn't bother to change the description, just the price.

That's quite a price jump. Either they think that the high demand for the 1st one means we'll all pay more for the 2nd, or the high demand for the 1st one exhausted their supply of surplus tools and they have to pay more for the 2nd round...

Still excited for my box to arrive...

Certainly not going to buy a second box when I haven't received the first one. $40 is out of the range I'm willing to pay for unknown tools. Will have fun seeing what I get this time around.

Yes, I wonder if the January tool box is worth twice what the December tool box is, or they just jacked up the price.

$39 plus $5 shipping, and no coupon code means $44 for a mystery box now. So more than double this time around.

I am guessing that the demand was way more than anticipated, so it was much harder to source the tools. Based on the shipping message they sent one user, hopefully this is all legit. I can see it being an issue of a growing pain, but they needed to email everyone who placed an order and let them know.

Communication ALWAYS goes a long way.
