I like the marking gauge, it’s amazing how well the simple things work! Did you have help with that glue up?Got the mast 16 sided today
Made a spar gage this morning to land the 16 sides.
One pencil bore for centerline, one for 8 sides and one for 16 sides
For cutting I tried power plane, spokeshave, block plane and drawknife.
I ended up using the drawknife and will finish with a plane.
Thanks, I find it it interesting how the gauge compensates for the taper.I like the marking gauge, it’s amazing how well the simple things work! Did you have help with that glue up?

HillRom, might be a model 820? Been a while but used to work on those.Got a couple of dirt cheap hospital beds, thinking I could use the frames, actuators and castors for something or other.
Turns out, one made a fine adjustable rolling cart for the boat project, with very little work.
Screwed some cradles to the headboard mounts and presto.

Son of a family friend (25ish) bought and is refinishing a 26’ boat.Got the mizzen boom shaped and jaws glued on.
Rather than making round, left it 8 sided.

Good on you Riv,Son of a family friend (25ish) bought and is refinishing a 26’ boat.
Been helping him a bit. More on the right products to use for different task, and outfitting him with tools.
I found this 14’ mizzen at a salvage yard for $20.
Needs refinishing, but should “Spruce” up nicely.
Nice to work with a driven young man. He’s proving to be quite capable.
