I've been thinking about getting the Klein for no other reason than I recognize the name. Amazon is full of Asian products with names that I can't pronounce.

Worn this Carhartt hardhat liner for years working outside. This is the original version that is still available. They have a newer Force version now that I havent tried. Comfortable, can be pulled down below nose or below chin as needed. Has held up well to repeated washes.

To me the big choice here is fleece or wool. If you're going to be moving around I like wool better. For me, fleece just gets too hot if I'm active. I walk outside about 3 miles a day rain or shine. When it's below 15 degrees F I'll wear fleece. Anything above that I'll wear wool.

If you're standing still I'd just buy both and see what you like. Most of the gaiters I've bought have been $10 - $20. Costco has a two pack in fleece right now for about $10 if there is one in your area.

I’ve worn silk wild rags forever. Easy on, easy off. They breath and are like putting on another layer of clothing for warmth.

I hike and have a couple of merino wool Icebreaker brand and like them. The brand probably doesn't matter, but merino wool is very comfy, soft, and also expensive. I only buy when on sale.

Today it was 15-30F and I didn't need to wear a neck gaiter.

You might want to search "balaclava" as that is a fairly common piece of winter gear for many. I use a balaclava as well as a thicker neck warmer (not merino wool), and the only thing I don't like about a thicker neck warmer is you know it's there and it can limit movement and irritate facial hair a bit more then a thinner piece of material.

I've used Turtle Fur gaiters for many years - although it rarely gets into the single digits around here. Mine are the double layer, 150 (x2) weight fleece in a dense weave. Comfortable for long periods, and does a pretty good job blocking wind. Fits snug enough that they don't usually ride up in the back - that said, they do restrict up an down movement to some degree. They have a staggering number of options/styles available.

Wife got me a heated vest with a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack this Christmas. I was skeptical at first but she said all her friends running the competition dogs have them. The collar (heated) zips up quite high and on hot setting is darned hot!
It has turned out to be a great way to be warm with just a long sleeved T shirt under and sweatshirt over. Seventeen degrees in the woods today and it was fine.

Just an idea, but you might want to check out Moosejaw.com on line. They have a great online presence and I just looked, they have a number of Turtle Fur neck gaiters on sale now for like $7. Also a wide variety of other kinds.

REI on line might be another choice to look at. Hope this helps. Jim

I would look on amazon for deals on something with close to 100% merino wool, and excellent reviews. All my wool stuff is Smartwool or Icebreaker, but it's stupid expensive unless it's 40% off- which is only when I buy it. If I had to buy something today, I'd buy a generic brand from Amazon using the criteria in the first sentence.

Keep in mind that wool shrinks like crazy, so don't just toss it in the dryer on high. I put my stuff on low for 5 minutes, so it's warm when I remove it, and then hang it up. For whatever reason I'm able to fully dry my Smartwool socks on low heat until fully dry, but I'd never do that with a shirt, or I'd end up with a hand puppet.

Been wearing turtle fur in the sub zero/single digit weather for 12plus hours for the last 9 days now. Even with 20 mph winds its great.

I have had the same one since 2006 and its still in great condition. It did well when the wife and I went dog sledding in the UP in 2013 and the morning temp was -27 F

I bought one from Shampa I like. It is synthetic, with a flece lining.

whatever you buy, just make sure its 100% merino wool.
My dad loved wool, I swear he would wear nothing but wool if he could. Me? I can't wear it, even Merino wool, it makes me want to rip off my skin. My dad has bought me all sorts of "wool" products that were no itch, no irritation, Merino, smart wool, you name it. Anything that came off an animal and it itches! I am stuck with cotton or synthetic.

costco sells a brand which I forget but they have neck gaitors and the baclava. I purchased a few of each and both are great..I use the 3n1 baclava more since it can do the job of a neck gaitor..

There's nothing better than a neck gaitor to keep warm, I've got a stack with and without a hood. Nothing special just off the rack from a store like ****'s or even Home Depot when they have the pop up boxes. They're usually around $10-15 and last forever. I've got some other high-end cold weather clothing and the cheap gaitors keep up with them.

too bad you cant get used to wool,we were hunting up in the mountains this weekend at - 16C,snow on the ground and north wind blowing like 80 km/h. I had a merino base layer, wool beanie and a wool ski mask. I was walking pretty much non stop and man,it was HOT so i kept my jacket unzipped pretty much non stop while walking. I doubt cotton or synthetic could keep you warm and dry at the same time like wool does. I mean you can layer cotton or fleece and it will keep you warm,no doubt but your base layer could end up soaking wet if you are walking alot. Have you tried cashmere?

I just stay inside when it is cold!

No I haven't tried cashmere.

Seriously, I really avoid going outside in the winter. I worked as a commercial service tech for years and had figured out what I needed to stay warm. I worked one day, -20F and -60 windchill. I was outside the whole day and stayed nice a toasty. I still have my work gear and it gets tossed in the pickup in the winter. I have no fear of the cold after working in it.

I am pretty warm blooded and can handle cold well. Most people give me **** because I will wear a fall jacket all winter. When it hits negative numbers I will grab a better jacket.
