Need a floor jack I can use in my shop that comes with a case.

I'd like to be able to carry it in my truck (in its case) when I'm towing my trailer.

Suggestions? The ones I've been finding look like junk.

You're looking at trolley jacks, not floor jacks. Yes, most are lower end of market.

I never had a problem carrying my old steel Norco around, but other people don't consider it as portable as I always did. The handle was 2-piece, after all. :)

Maybe aluminum and adding handles would suit your bill, minus the case?

Trolley jack it is!

Really want one with a case that can ride in my truck and hopefully will never be used on the side of a road.

I know that the one mentioned does not have a case. As stated, the only cased jacks that most of us have seen are just the definition of junk; dinky little hump-back trolley jacks that are not worthy of golf cart duty. They are sold on the same shelf as the 12 AWG jumper cables and the four-dollar air compressors.
The 1.5T Harbor Freight aluminum jack (60569) is one of the top products in the store. Super light and compact. The aluminum knurled handle is two-piece with a spring pin release. It was on sale for 50 bux just last week and will be again. My recommendation would be to buy that jack and then go by the G.I. Surplus for a canvas duffel to carry it in your truck.

Edit: or spend your effort just looking for a case to fit it. The point is that *that* particular little jack happens to be pretty close to ideal for the described purpose. Looking high and low for a better suited jack is likely a waste of time but looking for a case for this would be worthwhile....and I'd like a case, too! so let us know what you find!

Buy a floor jack for home use and a trolley jack for the trailer. . . . how big of a trailer I might ask ? I keep a trolley jack in the aluminum tongue box of my open trailer. It's lived there for 15 years, no case needed.

FYI, the enclosed trailer has a floor jack and I also keep a bottle jack with some blocks to try to cover it all.

I'd go for the Harbor Freight 1.5 ton personally. I carry one in my Jeep and find it pretty useful.

Jarhead - does this one come with a case?

Negative. But it’ll serve you better than the trolley jack ever could.

You would be MUCH FURTHER AHEAD if you bought a REAL floor jack and made a storage box for it !

Thanks for the comments and suggests.

I've got a REAL floor/trolley jack that lives at the house. Forget the brand but I've had it about 20 years. I think it is a 5 ton (or weighs 5 tons) - it is a sturdy sucker.

I want a safe but inexpensive jack that can ride in the enclosed bed of my enclosed pick up truck only to be used if I have a flat on my single axle boat trailer.

I carry an extra scissor jack and a bottle jack in my boat trailer tool box but I want something in a case that will ride in the truck. I thought about building a wooden case or using my old Army duffel bag but I wanted something that was somewhat water resistant.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Please keep them coming.

Hey! I have this! A very solid jack. It even has room inside for additional sockets and a breaker bar, which is what I keep in it. Its part of my: "Dad I'm on the side of the road with a flat" kit.

BTW it's much bigger and sturdier than the small walmart trolley jacks.

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but could you possibly post the dimensions of the jack both by itself and in the case? I've got a pull-out drawer I'm working on to mount in the back of the 4-Runner for tools, cables, 1st aid/roadside emerg kits, viair portable compressor, get-home bag, etc. I've currently got a scissors jack for it but a jack like that craftsman would be a nice addition if I can squeeze it in there.

If not I suppose I might have to take a look at the smaller 'walmart' ones instead but then I worry about reliability. I'm on my third HF aluminum 1.5 ton in ~5 yrs or so now. For the $50 or so they go for I like using it as a secondary jack to push up a control arm or whatnot, but don't know if I'd trust it to be my emergency jack out on the road.

I have almost the same situation and carry a trolly for trailer backup. There's a post here on using a $15 Home Depot tool box for chain saw storage. This may work as a trolly case. Otherwise I saw a Torin trolly in a case at walmart that looked ok.

The idea of throwing something in a case, allowing it to bounce around and sit unused for long periods of time and then expecting it to work when needed is a risky venture with today’s hydraulic jacks.

I carry trailer tire ramps for all my tandem axle trailers along with a OEM style mechanical jack with a few blocks of lumber for things that go bump in the night. I’d say most importantly, I run good tires in a attempt to negate side of the road repairs.

Well I went ahead and bought one of those Craftsman trolleys to do with it just what hiball recommends against doing. lol.

It's not in stock so I got it ship-to-store est Aug 24. For $26 I figure I don't have too much to lose. I'll keep the scissors jack along with it just in case.

Lol... Its only $26, you didn't get hurt. I once bought a pile of those small trolley jacks, All said and done I had $1 a piece in about 100 of them. I filtered/reused all the oil, replaced Orings as needed and sold them as-is for $10 a piece. It didn't take long to move them, and honestly I had people come up to me years later commenting on how they still use the Jack etc... I can't tell you how many of those trolley/cases I've seen over the years where all the oil was in the bottom of the case etc. Its another option, but it's hard to beat the reliability of a mechanical scissor Jack in a time of need.

I have a newer craftsman, 2.5 ton, it came in a plastic case I carry it in my truck, it's worked so far but I've only used it twice.

Is one trolley jack better than another? How many different companies make them? When I bought one to use doing suspension work(holding a control arm, not the car), they all looked like the same jack painted a different color.
