Need a new cordless drill

Looking at getting a new cordless. Gotta be compact (battery in the handle, no bulky battery packs) So I guess I'm looking for stick(?) batteries. I have a craftsman 12v which was fine until I put my new snap on drill bits in it that have enough bite to slip in the chuck. I've had it happen with other bits but the snap on bits are monsters and the drill just cant chuck em worth a *&^#.

Cordless tools are not my are of expertise at all. I'd like a drill and and a screwdriver (must have adjustable torque non impacting) for putting on panels. The screwdriver would just be a kicker to keep me from buying a new one from snap on.

Most important factors
Strong chuck
Fairly fast (mostly aluminum drilling)
No bulky battery

I don't even know where to start looking so I'm putting it in your capable hands gj.

Thanks

I have the 12v max dewalt drill, a good little drill. The main reason I bought the 12vmax line is because I wanted the 3/8 Impact. It doesnt have alot of power but It makes quick work of 10mm and self tapping screws.
Id go with the Milwaukee M12 line they have more tools better drill options and the 3/8 ratchet

Have the Ridgid 12v drill, impact driver, and multitool and I am very happy with it. Lifetime tool and battery warranty is a plus, luckily I have not had to use it yet.

Got a five year old set of Bosch 12V drill/impact, Ridgid 18V and Makita 18V drill/impact/recip/circ saw/radio/ set. Makita-Bosch-Dewalt-Milwaukee brands are all good. Just depends on what your plans and needs are for cordless. Ridgid power tools are decent and have a life-time warranty on tools/battery which could payoff since two of my Makita batteries are dead and they are expensive to replace. IMO Makita has been a leader in ergonomic, light-weight powerful power tools and the others are catching up or may have surpassed them. Milwaukee COO has changed but then they all are imported too. Ryobi makes great diyer power tools but lack the ergonomics and power of the better brands. Brushless technology is the latest big news in addition to smarter chargers/batteries.

I had a 12 v Craftsman and it did me well. Sold it and various others ,and bought Black & Decker 18v .Have bought several other B/D units and really like them. A bit bulky ,but does the job.

Ditto on Milwaukee M12. Preferably the Fuel variety to get the most out of the smaller stick batteries.

I have the rigid 12v impact and love it. My hitachi 18v drill's batteries won't hold a charge anymore. How's the power on the rigid 12v? Think I'll notice a big difference?

Plenty of power for what I do with it. The battery lasts a long time in between charges. I did not have unrealistic expectations from the start so I am very happy. The cordless that I owned before were a 9.6 makita (sold) and a Bluepoint 7.2 which I still have and enjoy.

I have the Bosch 12v PS21 screwdriver and the PS31 drill. These models have been out for a while, I use them everyday and have them for almost 3yrs and still going strong to this day. You can go m12 fuel if you want more power. But the Bosch you can get them at a pretty good deal on CPO Outlet.

I can't decide between the Makita LCT209W set for $129.00 because they look like they glow-in-the-dark, or the Bosch CLPK22-120 set for $169.00 because I already have Bosch. The Bosch I have takes 18v, so I guess sticking to the same brand won't really do anything for me except cost more. I guess I'm not very loyal.

(I guess the Bosch impact has LED lighting, while the Makita has a glow-in-the-dark ring? I should probably read their descriptions.)

Bosch --> lighter (Bosch brushless tools)
Bosch --> 2 AH batteries (Makita 1.3AH)
Bosch --> 4 AH batteries available (Makia n/a)
Bosch --> 2 yrs. warranty on batteries (Makita 1 year)
Bosch --> more tools available
Bosch --> available in L-Boxx containers

I have Craftsman, Milwaukee, Matco & Snap On. The Snap On was complete **** and returned to the truck. The Craftsman has a problem not gripping the drill bit, allowing it to slip under torque. The Matco was great but now losing torque. Milwaukee M12... can't say enough good things. It's what has led me to owning 12 other Milwaukee cordless tools. You can't go wrong with Milwaukee.

I'd look at...

White Makita set (Home Depot)
Bosch 12V set (local store has it with a power saw for $159. The drill and impact set is $169)
M12 Fuel series
Rigid 12V series (feels exactly like the Bosch and M12 to me...but more expensive)

Milwaukee M12

Dewalt 12v MAX (I own this, and use it more than my 18v... she'll spin a 3/4 paddle bit!)

Bosch maybe.. I don't like that they won't stand up  but L-Boxx availablity = win.

I am very happy with my Dewalt 20v max drill, and impact driver. If I didn't own them, I would look hard at the Milwaukee Fuel models.

Definitely go with the latest brushless tech. Ala Milwaukee M12 'Fuel' series.

Bosch also has a 12V brushless series popping up.

+1 on the Bosch suggestion.

I have a 12v Bosch impact which I've used daily for almost 3yrs. I use it for everything including drilling with hex shank drill bits, setting concrete anchors, hanging drywall. Ive dropped it dozens of times and never had it break/crack.

LOVE it.

But one question: Bosch has brushless versions of their 12v drill and the driver, but do they yet have a brushless 12v impact? I haven't seen one in the US.

Not sure if in the EU market they have one out or not, but I am imagining its just a matter of time until they do.
