I bought a wood wheel from autowoods, nice stuff and great guy. I then found a company owned buy Brad Dassow-he owns the three below.. Also sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I really need help as this upsets me and not sure what I can do.

oemdash.com
customcarneeds.com
vintagecarradio.com

The point is I wanted my passenger grab handle to match or be close to the wood on the wheel. I told him what I wanted and he said he could do it and it would close he even said he knew what color by the pictures and the description of the wood color from auto woods-Walnut. Well it didn't match at all and looks bad. He said he told me no guarantee on the color match, and I thought he meant no guarantee on color from the pictures matching the wheel, but he said if I didn't like it he redo it for the same amount again. Also there is a low crease on one side of the clear coat and a piece of dirt on the other. Can I call my credit card company and argue I didn't get what I paid for and that the color is totally wrong? Also it was my part he modified. I asked him why the color did not match the picture and his answer for everything was sorry I said it "no guarantee on the color", not sure what to do and if I can argue it out with the cc company or not. Acutally I used my debit card, so I might be stuck.... Here are the pictures I send him and the ones of the handle. Maybe I am asking to mutch in quality from people and companies? I don't know... He also doesn't have any disclamers on the site about color variations...

If you used your debit card like a credit card, meaning you didn't go to his location and use your pin, you are still able to call the card issuer and claim you didn't get what you paid for.

Be prepared to do a written report, and stick to the facts.

Correct I used it as a liked a credit card over the phone, but do you think I can win, because he did say "no guarantee on the color", but I think he did a horrible job and also he had colors on site that were close, why did he not have me pick one of them out and be my problem or why did it not match the pictures? Thanks for the advise I will call them up on it.

I fought a credit card charge once, I won, but spend so much time winning. Maybe I should have dropped it. Huge waste of time, and my case was clearer than yours. How much was the wheel?
Color match is hard to get right and for what it is worth from the pictures it looks nice. Have you considered having him make the passenger grab bar piece or someone else make both pieces. I can tell this bothers you, having the same pieces from identical wood and the same stain is a good way to have a matching set. Good luck.

I paid 120 for the handle to be redone not counting the cost of buying a spare handle and shipping of the handle to him. I called Chase and they are crediting my account and will get after the merchant. She said it was bad services performed and also he did say it wouldn't be perferct, but to not make it match the pictures I sent him, is bad on his part. I don't think he even printed them out to compare. Also the wheel was around 215 with over night shipping and you had to reuse your shroud and buttons, but does look nice. Also the handle wasn't real wood, it was place what would make anything look like you want becuase it looks like a print out that is clear coated and the quality was sad on the clear coat and just bad for 120. Also I am giving up on the handle as I still have my stock one and he did ask for the wheel but why would I send it to him to try again, if it doesn't match the pictures... I think he would waste my money again and he said he would redo it for 85 with a discount, we will see what happens with the claim.

I heard back from the seller today and he finally noticed my dispute and he said after a few emails he would redo it for free if I call up and cancel the dispute. What would you do? How can I trust him to redo it correctly when he couldn't before and also why doesn't he just call up and get the money back? Because he knows I will win and or that I am right? Not sure what to do....

Seems to me that if he will make it right, you ought to let him. I'd put it in writing and let him know you'll dispute the charge if the new work still isn't satisfactory.

BTW, I've regularly won my disputed card charges. Write a compelling letter and that's all there is to it. Pretty easy when the facts support your dissatisfaction.

I don't know exactly how it works, but "charge backs" mess with the merchants account, so many any they can get dropped or something.

Once you cancel the dispute, you may not be able to open it again regardless of what happens.

If you fail to act in good faith, let him do the work over for free, the credit card company may rule in the merchants favor.

BTW looked at your pictures, read all you wrote, still don't have a clue about what is actually wrong. Are you saying the grain pattern of the wood doesn't match? Doesn't match what?

The color and grain of the handle doesn't match the wood on my wheel which is what I paid him to match.

Have him do a refund on your initial credit card charge, this will close out your initial dispute. Then you could have him rebill your CC for the redone work. I think this would insure that you would be able to file another disputed charge should you fail to be satisfied.

call chase and let them know he is willing to fix it but tell them you want to keep the dispute until you receive the correct handle and once you do you want to call and cancel the dispute.

I had an issue where I had to fo this and the CC company was real nice and helped me work it out.

That is the best option, not sure if he will go for it, but it would be the best.

Here is what he said?

There is nothing to cancel on my end since I didnt initiate the dispute. They just take the money out of my account until an arbitraror decides something. You would have to drop the dispute and I will redo it for free.

What would you do now?

Grain comes from the piece of wood, unless a different type is used it won't change.
