One of the capacitors in my old Airco Dip-Pak 200 welder is bad and I am not having any luck finding a replacement. The capacitor is made by Mallory, its 2" od, 4 3/8" total height, and 7/8" spacing for the screw terminals. Its 10000mfd, 50v DC, and the numbers on it are 1373-2230 and 235-8408H. I have tried all the online capacitor cross reference charts I can find, but nothing at all comes up on any of them. I believe this welder was made in the 70's. Any ideas on finding a good cross reference for this? Thanks!

Plenty of those in the surplus market...
You needed to match capacitance.. max voltage and surge voltage (sometimes not listed on the cap) if any, and temp ratings...
These are DC caps... so no frequency... you can use higher voltage or higher capacitance if you find one for cheaper...
The temp rating type CGR might be hard to find... if anything you can parallel two together as long as the voltage meet or exceed that 50VDC...

and something else I don't remember, have to dig in my box...

you can google for "type CGR capcacitor" or "Welder Capacitor" maybe ? as long as the parameter meet or exceed your current rating...

The 2 above look like an almost exact replacement. Can I ask how you guys found that other part number? I went through every capacitor cross reference site I could find, and none of them came up with any cross for the numbers on my original capacitor. Thanks everyone for all the help!

To find them go to one of the major electronic component websites and go to components capacitors and use their search filters to narrow down the results to what you are looking for. I switch between which supplier I use as the search filters are different between them so I will use the one that has the options I am worried about.

I was going to make the same suggestions that Kaffine made. I suppose you could also check to see if there is anybody local selling electronic parts and give them a call. Either in a phone book (if they still make those) or just check your search engine.

Sometimes just typing what you have into Google will provide good results. For example, just searching for "Mallory 10000 uf 50v" on e-bay pops up with a lot of results.

Mallory isn’t around any longer except in name, Cornell Dubliner (CDE) owns the name and sells them as high priced replacements for the audiophool crowd or people restoring old electronics and get picky about having something that fits/looks true to original.
