they do still sell the lock for 25.25$, free shipping:

if you replace the "1" in the part number with 2-7, you can get multi lock sets keyed alike.
Is that the traditional red, or is it cranberry?
I like the cranberry red.
If I take the wire off and close the doors they are locked with no way to open it.
happened to a guy I know, thankfully it was a new to him box and still empty, we had to turn it upside down to get it open lol. easier than trying to slide something in and lifting the locking mechanism since it was completely empty at the time.
I need the bar that runs to the back of the box and any parts with it, I only have the pieces that fall into place to lock the box. I have them safety wired up so I can open the drawers. If I take the wire off and close the doors they are locked with no way to open it.
if you call snapon, they will spend the time with you on the phone to get you the parts you need.
people complain about the price, but they maintain parts for 40 year old tool boxes, and are more than happy to take the time to help you get what you need.
now, part of it is that they are smart. the lock set from a 1970's box is interchangeable with a brand new box, but still . . . . . .
I'll see how good of a pic I can get when i get home tonight. I think I can just open the top drawer all the way up and take out the two of the 2" drawers below and just stick my phone in there. BTW, I can't tell anything from your pics. They are too blurry. Chris.Any ideas?
The 54" wide, 29" deep KRL box is alive and well. The KRL1022 is the current box that is the same size as our KRL1001. The only difference is that the newer model has a 5" and 3" full width drawer instead of one 4". Snap-on did this years ago to accommodate taller sockets in the top drawer and give users a 2nd full width drawer commonly used for wrenches. The locking mechanism should be identical. Chris. That is a huge help! I am waiting for snap on to email me back about getting the rod assembly. The trouble is that these boxes went out of production 17 years ago so parts may not still be available. Thank you!
Thanks. My new S7 deserves the credit. My wife and I each got one on BOGO over the Black Friday weekend. My M18 Led light provided a little better light in there as well.Chris,
I think you deserve some kind of award for the best cell phone pics ever.
Wreckster that idea sounds sweet. I've always liked the SO black steel tops with the bedliner coating but have refrained from adding one because the KRL1001 is already so tall. I'm 6 foot but I wouldn't want the box taller. Your idea of a homemade wood top is interesting because you could make it alot thinner than a butcher block top and I've always dug gray stained wood. Definitely keep us posted if you decide to make your own top.I tally my **** cell phone pics up to an outdated iPhone 6s. I will look in to the KRL 1022. Also what is the preferred top to everyone's toolbox? I was thinking of making a wooden top and staining it a dark grey.
