I picked up this 1987 RamAir 80 galllon air compressor for next to nothing this morning. I was told it has some oil blow by in the lines and they decided to upgrade to a new system. I have not been able to find much information on this brand, other than another post on this website that hints that it might have a Campbell Haus pump. The thing I am confused about are the motor is directly connected to the pump, most compressors use a belt sytem. Is it worth trying to rebuild the pump if I can get the correct parts? Or am I better off converting it to a newer pump and motor?

Direct drive? I bet it's loud as hell and doesn't perform great.

If the tank is good, I'd look for a new pump and motor setup

oil blow by would indicate likely bad rings. it could be as simple as someone overfilled it with oil on a service too.
If it was me, I would check it over before committing to anything.
if parts are available, and not too pricey, I would invest in rings if that's what it needs. that's assuming you are Ok with a loudish air compressor, and it will serve what you need of it.

Thanks for the replies. So far I've put together that its the same pump and motor used on the 1988 Speedaire 5Z017B with the motor being a doeer LR13758. I am still trying to find parts for this pump using the Speedaire as my basis for information

I'm going to call grainer tomorrow since their house brand is Speedaire. I learned the motor and pump are sold as a unit via the parts diagram I found on the parts website. Only bad thing is they don't have a link to that part or ref any part number for it

Last update to help the next person. If you have one of these Direct drive RamAir air compressors you might have luck looking for Speedaire 5Z017B parts, I did not howevver have any luck. I dis however get lucky and found that the Campbell Hausfeld HS4810 apears to be the same pump with a remote motor like the newer ones you see today. The pump cyclinders, bolts and front plastics all matchup as well from the photos i could find. Parts seem to be available online which is a huge plug. Hopefully someone else will find this useful later on down the road.
