Need help with Rockwell bench grinder model 1053

I am new to the forum as of today. The reason for joining is that my friend gave me this Rockwell bench grinder model 1053 (motor is made by Marathon). There is a reason why he gave it to me and this is because someone in his shop dropped it and the shaft must be bent. I am just in the tear down investigation stage and this is where I need some help. I have the grinder wheel cover off and the grinder wheel off (It screws on).
Here is where I need the help. I don't know what the collar on the inboard side of the grinder wheel called but I can not get the thing off. It moves about a 1/2 " back and forth but it will not slide off the shaft. Do I need a small puller to get it off?? I really would like to salvage this nice old tool.

That is an inner flange for the wheel and it is keyed and very tight fit. They are still available but cost $68 each. It goes about an inch into the end bell. If the shaft is bent, it will take a puller (at the very least) to remove it. Don't be surprised if you ruin it.

Your information is very helpful. I did not see a key and I thought I was looking very close, however I will take another look.

The "key" is a cross pin in the shaft. There are notches in the flange piece that engage the cross pin to keep it from spinning. Once you pull the flange out a bit it should be able to turn on the shaft.

I never found the cross pin and I gave up and dropped off the grinder at a repair shop. For $30 dollars they will take a look and tell my what it will cost to fix it. I should know in a couple of weeks and I will let you know what they found.
