I just bought my first Snap On tool box off of offer up. It is a KRSC33A. Came with both keys and is in great shape for $225.00
What would be the best way to repaint/refinish it?
From what I gather Snap On uses a urethane paint when painting these.
My grandfather owned a body shop for 35 years, so I can prep and wet sand it but I never learned how to paint.
Would you guys rattle can this or take it to a body shop and have it painted?
I'm kind of torn. The cost isn't really a big issue to me having it done at a shop. I could take it to Maccao and have it sprayed for probably $100. I want it to look nice tho and my can control is 50/50 lol
My paint brush control is excellent tho. 374383d70e6cb1526dabcf4c785417f0.jpg
The top arrows are rustoleum semi gloss protective enamel. Aside from the one small run it went on great with barely any prep. Good color match.
The bottom arrows is VHT high temp engine enamel.
I think this cart was originally red and someone painted it. I really like the white with red drawers and obviously plan on keeping it this way. 77a7833725094681a72e890f47c8b604.jpg

They rino lined the top unfortunately. Planing on ordering nice drawer liners from Snap On.
Found the 3D chrome trim in England.3096fb1a0eb581eeec25bd21f6405c85.jpg
I appreciate any feedback, thoughts, and opinions guys. Thank you for your time and consideration.
I very much live vicariously thru all of your garage and shop builds. My bachelor pad doesn't have a garage. (Price is too good to move out tho) my current "garage"

If anyone in the Dallas area has a small shop/garage space for sell or lease I have a need.800b46e9364c38c6d45cc11f361750b7.jpg

If money isnt the issue than go get a cheap gun 9.99 gun and a compressor from harbor freight and some automotive paint at wherever locally you prefer and consider this your learning project.

The prep work is hardest part of painting anyways and if you're already decent at that then half battle already won.

If it turns out bad sand it down and go at it again.

Or just rattle it good and put on a good clear coat. Rattled color isnt bad but the rattled clear coats just aren't as good as real sprayed clear with hardeners.

Thanks for the input. Had never seen or thought to look into one of these little compact compressors. Gonna go with the huskey 2gal 100psi oiless from Home Depot. The prep work is no problem. Lost a lot of skin from my finger tips when I was a teen 400 grit wet sanding hoods, fenders etc in my grandfathers body shop. I might have to "Dexter" this thing in my kitchen tho. Thanks for the input.

Nice! The wheels are just regular snowflake repos. Pretty sure they are just 15X8s. They may look a little wider because the front end has eibach lowering springs with no isolators and 225/50 R15s I don't really like the way it looks but this is the only size tire I can get in 15" Switching to year one 17"s soon. Lots more tire size to choose from and the fit it good. Not a fan of guys running 20"s on classic cars. Doesn't look right to me.39247da48853b1d59a6b5d7e19a715cc.jpg will look like this with drop blocks for the leaf springs. (This car has an Art Morrison chassis, I can't currently afford one of these but you should definitely check them out. 74fc0d667bb60ebf3dad42d850b5a90b.jpg 059952817dbe2d1e2b456f77e2f56862.jpg couple washed pictures 0c08ffbf3c870f233b4b012e270cb6ef.jpg Do have any pics of yours?

I'll say this - if you are gonna spend the money to bring it to a paint shop and have that done, if it were me, I woulda just bought a cart in better shape to begin with. You might even wind up spending more than you could have. $100 sounds cheap to me for a body shop. That should really be taken apart, sanded, sprayed, and reassembled if you're gonna bring it somewhere.

That's the reason why a lot of guys buy that red HF tool cart. For about $200 you get a brand new cart that's just about as good as a snap on for what people actually need..

If you wanna save money,(maybe), just rattle can it, clear it, and spend some time with a buffer to compound it out. It's really up to you as to how much time and money YOU feel is worth putting into it.. I always felt like I just wasted time and effort, and wound up spending even more money doing stuff that way. Sometimes it's just worth it to spend a little more up front... all different kinds sand paper, paint, sanding, priming, painting, clearing, waiting, buffing - buying all that **** if you don't already have it.. ehh...

Or - sell it, get the HF, and move on with your life..

Here, $179 - https://t.harborfreight.com/tool-storage/tool-carts/30-in-5-drawer-glossy-red-tool-cart-61427.html

And for $27 you can add this to it - https://t.harborfreight.com/tool-cart-folding-side-tray-62207.html

The black HF carts are only like $99 new.. you'll find they are a VERY popular item on here for good reasons. There's an entire thread devoted to them.

$99 cart - https://t.harborfreight.com/26-in-4-drawer-580-lb-capacity-glossy-black-roller-cart-61634.html

Remove the stickers and slap a snap on logo onto the cart if you must.. other than being able to post on a forum "I have a snap on cart", the HF carts will do exactly what a snap on will for most people, probably you as well.. it's really up to you. If you like time consuming projects, go for it.. if you don't wanna bother with all the time/effort - for $100 buy a new one from HF, sell the snap on, and buy some tools instead..

Already have more tools than I have room for in multiple boxes. I prefer to buy the best quality tools I can find and prefer them to be American made. For me it is also a family traditional thing. My Grandfather used Snap On tools in his body shop and passed them down to me. I will pass on mine to my children. Harbor Freight tools work fine I'm sure. They have a great assortment covering almost anything someone would need with great price points on them. That being said they don't really qualify as possible heirlooms you would want to pass down to your sons. I don't finance any of the tools I buy and very rarely pay full retail. Even so what kind of idiot would sell a tool cart that retails new $1100.00 that was paid $225 for with some minor scratches to buy a much inferior product for $179.00 before tax? Even if it was only $100.00 that would be very foolish. The reason I was seeking help was because with a little time and attention to detail (things I enjoy) this cart can easily be resold for $650.00
making it a pretty solid investment that will continue to hold its value for years to come. I already have all the supplies needed to prep and refinish it. (Rattle can, sanding blocks, sand able primer, self etching primer, etc) Just wasn't sure the best choice to go about painting it. Going to stop byHome Depot later and pick up an airbrush kit, then to English color supply Monday for the paint. The time and effort it will take to do it right is the absolute fun part which I really enjoy.
I appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback! Even if we may do things differently :)

It's a SOP around here in most threads for someone to post how you should just forget about your truck box, tool, whatever, and go out and buy HF.

I was not aware of that. Haha!
I wonder when they switched from just being a mail order company to having stores?
