if its all thats available locally, go for it, if u have a harbor freight close by, get a hf box. i was debateing on either harbor freight or cman myself, but went for the cman. i just got a 3 chest 26" combo though as sears is local to me...hf is 160 miles away or so.

Nope. Bottom box is $349 with super coupon good for another month or so. Top box is on sale for $299. Technically they are not suppose to apply the 20% off coupon on the top but I found 2 of 3 locally were willing to. I grabbed the Top one and will get the bottom in a week or so. ($349 + $240 = $589)

That's a different box. The one I referenced in my links has ball bearing drawers, not those "quite glide" ones. And it is also $699 after the rebates that are good today only.

Yes, it is a good deal. I paid somewhere around $1200 for the black set about 7 years ago. No complaints.

I can't follow what box you want but the 40" top and bottom, ball bearing, griplatch unit is on sale as a door buster tomorrow for $699 as well. It looks like you selected a lower end unit in your OP for the same price.

Hear me loud and clear...

Having owned many different boxes over the years (several of which were Craftsman), and now I own the HF boxes... Craftsman can't come close to the HF box. If I had to buy a box tomorrow, I'd go 100 miles out of my way for the HF box, and even spend more money on it if I had to. If I couldn't afford the HF box tomorrow, I'd rather go without until I had the funds.

+1 on the tool carts being awesome! i got the black 4 drawer and am very happy with it! another reason i didint get the hf 41" box like i wanted...i drive a hatchback car..haha. so if i want to move my 26" cman combo, i can!

It sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that you want the Craftsman boxes. If you do, buy them. They will probably hold your tools just fine. You asked for opinions and the general census seems to be that the HF boxes are better boxes for the money. Take it for whats it's worth. I think that you will be happy with the HF boxes...

I hope you didn't get the Cman set. I looked at them and the HD and the Lowes stuff. All pretty but much more flimsy that the HF boxes. It takes a while to wrap your mind around the choice, pretty or tough, and to decide that tough is more important to you. Tough has a beauty all it's own, like a military truck in olive drab or camo.

I called sears a few days ago to find out...according to the folks on the phone they are assembled in the USA. So that is something to consider over buying a HF box. You always pay more for US stuff, or get less for the same money. That is the way of the world.

My dad has a 10yr old 40" craftsman box ball bearing with out grip latch and it seems pretty good. He also has a smaller roll around with Grip latch that he had in his service van, never had any problems with it either. I have not seen the Harbor Freight model but I am sure its good to. I would think that it comes down to what you want. I like Sears and the Craftsman line, but you have to watch them because they do seem to be moving a lot of things over seas.

Went with the HF 13 drawer box. Top and Bottom combo. $399 bottom and $299 top. Got it this morning.

There's a $350 coupon for the bottom valid until Dec 20th. I looked at the HF box today again, I am pursuing the Sears bottom for $400 locally. If that doesn't pan out I'll do the HF box but the store models "bumps" had been worn out from repeated opening and closing. No such issue with the grip latch.

I think that's the same Craftsman box I picked up last year (ball bearing, no grip latch) for $499. I didn't get the top box because I wanted the flat area on top to set "things" on. I thought that I got it for a good price seeing as the normal price was $699 for that Craftsman box.

I didn't realize at the time that the Harbor Freight boxes were basically the same size, but much cheaper! I picked up the HF box this past spring and love it, and in my opinion they are a much better deal than the Craftsman boxes. Last month I picked up the HF 5 drawer roll around service cart during their sidewalk sale for pretty cheap (with 20% coupon on top of the sale price). The HF boxes have nice drawers, the ball bearings hold great weight, and the casters seem to be just fine. Plus, they come with drawer liners!

I think that in the case of tool boxes, you're paying extra money for the Craftsman name and not for extra quality.
