Hi. I have been lurking and reading/dreaming for a while now. I have an attached 22x24ft garage that the Boss-lady gave the "go ahead" on for finishing for my 40th B-day.
I do some self wrenching and like to do some custom building and fabricating. I am currently working on a custom cafe motorcycle with hopes of something with 4 wheels later down the line.
My garage is insulated fairly well and can be heated in the winter with just 1 or 2 little plug-in shop heaters. The floor is 16 yo poured concrete and is sealed.
I am really torn between VCT or epoxy. I like the epoxy for the longevity and durability but don't relish the grinding and prep work that goes with it. VCT would be easier to lay down but I have heard that it needs to have ambient temperatures maintained year round. Is this true?

I know this is the age old garage flooring question, but for some reason I can find as many pros as cons with both options. Cost is a realtive factor as well.
Help!

If the concrete is level without a lot of issues (cracks, spalling etc.) with the right set up you can grind that in a couple of hours. Other than that there isn't much prep work.

If it does have issues, you'll want to address them even if you use VCT, floor imperfections do transmit through the tiles over time.

I agree, the prep work is not "that" bad for epoxy. I think this is a decision you will have to make yourself. Find what you like best and go for it.
