Great thread, could not find out who made MAC compressors. Thanks for that info @vanapplebomb. I'm going with the Eaton 7.5 listed above by @Honch , after I do some electrical work. Price has increased $78 since above post one month ago. Freight about $400 to western NC.

The Polar Air seems like a lot of value for what else is available in the $2000-$3000 range

That's a great idea if one has such a local business to inquire at. There is a retired air compressor mechanic in my area that rebuilds American-made quality compressors and sells them for reasonable prices. Even if you have to buy a new single-phase motor for one it can still cost far less.
