I'm in the process of building a new home with a 4 car garage. I would like to heat it with a Mr. heater or Hot Dawg. I will have a gas line run into the garage, but I am very confused about the venting. I hope someone can help me. I guess I will need a vent kit so the exaust from the unit can vent to the outside, but do I ALSO need another kit to bring fresh air to the unit? Also, is there a maximum distance the unit can be from venting to the outside? If I put it in the middle of the garage it may have to travel 25 ft. Thanks for the help. Scott

Vent it vertically if you can. B-pipe is very expensive! You want to stay as short as possible. Most models do not require "fresh air". Unless you want it or require it for some reason, you will have to buy a specific model. Venting is pretty easy. Find a local Furnace supply company, go to their "will call" and tell them what you want to do. You'll need to know the roof pitch (how many inches of rise per foot) to determine what kind of flashing needed. Mr heater and Hot dawg have a 3" vent, which you can stick with if you vent vertically. Otherwise (look in the manual) you'll need 4 or 5 inch to vent horizontally. Word to the wise..If you live in illinois do not buy the Hot Dawg.

Very long Story....Modine blames Illinois' "Dirty Power" We have found in the Illinois area that we are have a power problem with your power supply company. What happens is there is an interruption of power "dirty power" and it's enough to close a set of contacts to turn the power exhauster on. Please contact Ron at Heinlein Supply 773-774-8616, and ask him to send you out a new wiring harness for the HD units. This harness will take care of the issue. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks for the explanation. Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble. Glad I moved to WI about 12 years ago.:lol_hitti

Beetroot72, thanks for the response. I talked to my contractor today and we dicided that what we probably will do is run a vertical vent adjacent to the direct vent fireplace we are doing. We can run both the vent tubes ( 3 inch for the heater and 8 inch for the fireplace) together and out the chimney. Anyone see any problems with this? So if we do a vertical vent I only need to use a 3inch and not a 5? Thanks again.
