New 3 bay in WV

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a new house with a 3 bay garage. It is the definition of a clean sheet of paper. The walls are pure white and not a single thing is mounted. I have two passions that are garage related: cycling and light weight sporty cars.

The MINI is my wife's love of her car life (6MT, supercharged). I finally got some RWD goodness. I also have 2 Cannondale mountain bikes and 3 Treks (2 city bikes, 1 roadie). Based on the way my 3 bay is laid out, I'm planning on treating the 3rd bay as a showroom of sorts. I'd like to do the floor in black and white checkerboard and have bike racks that display the 2 mountain bikes and the road bike higher on the 3 walls of the garage. Tools and workbench will go in the larger double bay to keep clutter to a minimum. I'm shooting for modern and clean.

So, I'll be hanging around and hopefully learning a thing or two so that when I open the door to the 3rd bay, I'm greeted with my toys.

Thanks,

Quentin

Would love to take a spin in a supercharged Mini. BUcket list car is an AWD Countryman.

Where at in WV? Mountaineer or Herd?

Hello Quentin and welcome from Ohio!

Thank you. :)

It is a great little car. My wife ordered it when she finished nursing school and Pepper just had her 10th birthday! We looked at a Countryman but I told my wife it was her MINI or the Countryman. She chose to keep her MINI. We did enjoy the CM a lot. There were quite a few at the Pittsburgh Vintage GP this past summer.

See the decal in the rear window? :)

We are between Charleston and Huntington but my family is all Mountaineer. My wife and I met in Morgantown and were actually introduced to one another by the Mountaineer from 03-05. He was a life long friend of mine and my wife was his RA in the dorms.

Thank you both for the warm welcome.

After almost a month in the new house, we are getting somewhat settled. The good news is that the walk in crawl space is home to the yard working tools (rakes, shovels, mattocks, etc) which leaves ample space in the main double bay for the wife's cars, bicycles, backpacking gear, mower, air compressor, tools, etc. I literally only have to keep what I want in the 3rd bay with my FR-S.

I've been going back and forth with what I want to do flooring wise in that bay. The Racedeck samples arrived and I can definitely understand where the noise complaints could come from. I received some stick on tile samples and the texture makes it very clear that the white tiles will look terrible in short order and/or be very difficult to clean. The texture reminds me of a textured bathtub and we all know how much elbow grease those take if they aren't cleaned regularly. There is a local guy that will paint the floor and can do a glossy gray finish which would work with the theme I think I've decided to use...

But first, there have been some changes to the car. When I saw this speed hunters FR-S, I was inspired.

I love the vintage Toyota racing colors and the gold wheels. Step 1: make my car look more vintage. A visit to the local body shop fixed my black wheels.

My next thought was how to incorporate the red, orange, and black into the garage. I did a Google image search for FR-S CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and found this.

My thinking is that I can stylize broad red, orange, and yellow stripes on the wall in the basic shape of the fluid flow lines in that CFD screenshot. I'd leave a blank silhouette of the car in a 1:1 scale on the wall and have the lines flow around it. It would have a neat effect with or without the car parked in the garage. I have some very talented graphic design friends that could design the flow shape and I could use a projector and transparency prints to aid in the painting.

As far as the bike display stands, I'm having little luck there. I think I'll have to build what I want. Thank goodness for AutoDesk Inventor!

That looks amazing and those tiles would really give it the showroom look. Thanks for the link!

Bikes are up and out of the way. They are Delta branded racks that lean against the wall. Pretty sturdy, easy to assemble. The arms are a little too easy to rotate when trying to fit them into the complex full suspension mountain bike frame.

Racedeck comes next. Should have it down Sunday night.

I think paint is a must. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but something needs to break up all the white.

Depending how all this holds this winter to having a daily driver, I might do the other two bays. It really does look nice in person. I need to trim out the back and side pieces. As good excuse as any to buy a table saw, right?

You should start a thread in the garage gallery section so it is easier to follow your progress. Garage looks good so far I too like bicycling.

Q: if you do start a thread in garage gallery just know there are hundreds and probably thousands of them over there so you might have to keep posting pictures and new improvements before you get a few members to keep following and posting.

floor looks awesome. i'd probably hang my bikes from the ceiling like i did until i sold them, but if you use them all the time and don't have a huge workbench or tool boxes or shelving to put in that space then WELL DONE.

cheers
