New 30x57 Build, Getting Settled In

I have posted some pics in the past, but did not know how to "insert" the pictures into the thread vice as an attachment. I find that inserting them is easier for all to view, so I am reposting some pics to so the group can see what I have been up to.

I had limitations for what I can build in my neighborhood, but the the basic rule is, it has to match the house and 15 feet from the power lines. So I did a stick build and researched this group for a long time to see what others have done and gain ideas.

This is a four bay garage, overall width is 57 feet and overall depth is 30 feet. The garage doors are 10 ft wide, 9 ft tall (best choice ever!) and insulated. Door openers are side mount jack shaft motors by Lift master. I can get my truck in and out with mirrors out.

The far left bay has a cathedral ceiling for a lift. The other three bays has a ceiling height of roughly 11-1/2 ft. Upstairs is a 14x36 ft long space for storage with four active dormers across the front roof line.

The upstairs will be finished at a later date. Need to make some decisions on climate control for up there, but it will be insulated and dry walled.

I have fourteen 8 ft long lights in the work area. Lights up the garage very nice. I am not sure where I want the 240V drops yet, so I left the walls open. I have installed all the 20 amp outlets throughout the garage already, jut not sure on the 240V spots. I have still have to insulate and dry wall as well.

An 80 gal 2 stage air compressor will be coming soon. Still researching which one to go with. Looking at tire changing equipment as well.

Floor has some shrink cracks that will deal with once the slab goes through its first freeze. Found a product by Raydon Seal to deal with it. Then some sort of floor treatment. I thought of polishing and some sort of epoxy color, but believe I will just go with an clear epoxy concrete sealer by Legacy Industries whom I have spoke with. Just can see expending a lot of money into the floor to make it look beautiful just to have scuffed, scratched etc. If this was a show room, sure, but I plan to work in the garage, not watch TV. By the way, NO TV, this is for work!

I got a Challenger two post lift installed last week for my Christmas gift. Its Model CL10V3-2. I hand many sleepless nights debating what lift to go with and my gut led me to the Challenger and I could be any happier with it. Lots of debates on here about what lift is better. Just read all you can and go with your gut is all I can say. You want to feel safe under the lift as well and be safe.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures and thank you all for posting all of yours allowing my to use ideas on this site to design and build my garage.

Will

Will, quick question in regards to the garage door in your bay with the lift. Were you able to order the track at an angle like that to run up the ceiling or did you simply cut the track yourself in the middle of the standard 90 degree bend? Thank you for your help!

Nemesis88, the garage door company came in and measured everything and placed the order. These are all high lift doors rails. The track on that door runs the angle and all doors are roughly 10 inches from the truss/ ceiling. I used a company called Apple doors locally here in Fredericksburg, VA. I believe they are nationwide. The gave me the best deal with military discount. That one door does require a different spring.

Great looking place! I like how the details match the house.

I noticed the downspouts go down into the ground - do they drain into a drywell or just dump out downhill somewhere?

Is that gable wall built on 12" centers? Appears narrower than the "back" wall where your chest is.

How high can you lift the truck? Are you able you walk freely underneath, or only on a car?

Beautiful set up, I'm sure its a dream come true.

On that wall, due to the size, the county made the builder "engineer' the wall. I personally believe it is overkill, but I can't fight the county.

Yes says the county. Originally, the poured walls were going to two foot above grade and two foot below grade. When we went in for permits and the county took a look at the soil samples, they changed their minds and said the footers need to be at 48 inches. Then the builder did not compensate for the higher grade on the back side of of the garage and that back corner became the height of the wall determining factor. So, the footers are 48 inches down and walls came up as well. This meant the over all framed wall reduced in height. Going back to the county, we tried to get the approval to go to 16 on center, but the county refused and held us to 12 inches on center to ensure structure integrity. Overall, its going to be a pain to insulate, but it was not worth the fight to slow the project down as I had framers on site. Is it a waste of money or over-kill, sure, but its a strong wall...

What a great looking garage!

And, it has a lift, and even a Chevy truck.

You will be in my dreams tonight.............................errrrrr.......well, your garage will be anyway.

I look forward to seeing how you fill it up, and what kind of projects you do in there.

Nice looking garage. Did you take any construction pictures ? What's you plan for the future use upstairs ?

Eric,

I did take pictures all the way through the process. The upstairs is primarily going to be storage and I will make a small office to keep my manuals etc. I don't want the shop area cluttered with stuff so some tools and things small enough and not used on a regular basis will be upstairs. I will get finished and some sort of climate control installed.
