New 40 x 80 steel building

I am in the planning stages of a new shop. The building will be all steel with a "vaulted" ceiling. Construction is "truss joists" on approx 12 centers with steel purlins and girts on 2ft centers. Prior to installing the skin, the entire building will be wrapped in a R-13 fiberglass blanket with radiant barrier on the outside against the skin and white vinyl on the inside. A radiant floor system is planned. Slab will be 6". The building will be located on the southern edge of Kansas City metro.

I need some help with the heat load calc and design. Seems like most of the floor systems on here are located farther north where the heating requirements are significantly greater than required in this geo area.

I heat my 30x60 (hot air heat) which is probably insulated a bit better than yours (My ceiling is R-19) easily with 150K BTU. NH is probably a bit colder than where you are. That's keeping the shop at 40 when I'm not out there, and bringing the temp up when I go out to work. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to raise the temp up to 50 to 55, which isn't bad, IMHO.

So my WAG (sorry!) would be 120 to 180K BTU max, and with radiant floor heat you won't be dropping the temp much when you are not in the building. You might even get by with less than 120K BTU.

Google heat load calculator there are a bunch of free ones online.

More insulation would be the cheapest thing to do even temperatures will be more stable my 40x60 I went with r38 it is very easy too heat and should be cooler in the summer.

I set mine up for radiant but that will be coming from solar hot water panels, that project will be over the summer for now I have a wood stove, it is more than sufficient to heat the building.
