Got my new 56" Extreme toolbox in from strictly toolboxes this last week.

First of all, it's bigger than it looks on the website!

To give you some idea of the size of this box... Our Ford Expedition fits under the light over the tool box in the pic with about a foot to spare. With the lid, up, this box is actually a few inches taller than our Ford Expedition.

Overall I'm very happy. The toolbox is heavy and well built.

I've only got two gripes with this box. First of all it really needs two handles on each end of the top chest.

When the box arrived, it was on a small pallet and they had the top chest in a cardboard box sitting on top of the bottom cabnet which was in another cardboard box with strapping tieing the top and bottom togather.

The truck driver offered to help me lift the top cabnet off the bottom so I could inspect the bottom cabnet and I just about dropped my side. The top cabnet is just too heavy with the drawers in it to lift with a single handle on each side. That said, even Snap-on's KRL 54" top chests only have one handle on each side so maybe I'm asking too much.

The other thing I could do without is the big obnoxius Extreme Tools logo on the bottom. If they whould ditch this logo and use they money the save to add two more handles on the top cabnet would be perfect.

But it was well packed and arrived without any scratches or dings.

The the box looks a little hazy in the pics it's because I went over it with a coat of Zaino Z5and had not wiped it off when I took the pics.

Update... Some better pics after wiping off the Zaino...

Nah, I skipped the dawn & clay bar. Didn't look like it had been waxed so no need to strip it:)

You can probably take a plastic Bondo spreader and pop the emblems off. The sooner the better.

Anyway that's what my old Mac man told me when I told him I didn't like the logos on my box. Wasn't brave enough to try it.

is there rivets or fasteners holding that massive billboard on the bottom draw? If there is I wont even consider this box. If its sticky tape its ok.

get a heat gun and some floss or fishing line.

the logo should come right off. apply some goo-gone on it to get off the residue, than wipe with damp cloth and re-zaino that area.

no personal experience with this tool chest, but that's how I got the emblems off my cars.

Beautiful, well built and functional. It has all the qualities of a great toolbox (and a great woman BTW :bounce:). Have to agree about the logo on the bottom - a tad overstated. If it is just stuck on, then as mentioned previously some fishing line and some goof off will make quick work of it. If you want to learn more, jump on just about any car forum and search for debadging.

If you cut the logo so you are only left with "Ex" & reme" You could sell it to a former member of the British Army "Royal Electrical & Mechanical Enginers"

The logos are held on with 3M style sticky tape. You can take fish line and go behind with logo with it to work the tape loose while another person pulls the logo off. They come off nice and clean and leave the box unmarked.

20" deep isn't enough IMHO. Too many drawers get filled too fast.

That's where the "budget" boxes fall short... they look the same up front but run out of drawer space before you run out of tools. A 30" deep box would give you 1/3 more storage with the same width...

A HF box would give you the same amout of storage at a way smaller price.... I don't mean to suggest your box is in the same league as an HF box but if you are going to buy an import box why spend all that $$$ for shiny paint?

BTW...it IS pretty.

I really like the box he got, but If you want to get a deeper version of the HF box, Greg smith does carry deeper versions of the HF box. (it looks to be the same company, and has the same exact patent plaques on the back or the drawers.

This just under 30" deep box is just under $4K total for everything shown below.

Actually the 20" works good for me. If it had been 30" I would not have been able to put it on my garage wall and still get my car in with enough room to walk between the car and the box.

I think the closest Snap-on would be the KRL7022 series... These are 54" boxes that are 29 1/8" deep. So every drawer is 9 1/8" deeper but my wide drawers are 2" wider.

Personally, I don't like the really deep drawers... I just don't like having to pull a drawer out 3 ft. to see what's inside it and having to reach three feet over over stuff to get something. I would rather have two boxes with 20" drawers:)

I could never put all my sockets in a 20" deep drawer... I have 3/8. 1/2 and some 3/4 inch regular and impact. That, along with the ratchets and extensions would fill two drawers. Now please understand that I have a small 42 year old main tool box set that can't hold them all now... I have three top boxes and two roll cabs to hold everything right now.

I'm at the point where I'll wait for the right deal to come down the pike...I should be able to get a top and bottom 56" name brand set for around $2500.00 or less off the tool truck or on CL/Fleabay.... I missed several great deals last summer when I didn't have the $$$ to pull the trigger. One was a two month old MATCO 56" box for $1200.00... a real good buy.

Like I said it looks like your new toy is far better than the "US General" boxes...

Took a few more pics now that I have my tools in the box. Will give some idea of the size of the Extreme 56".

DSCN0580.jpg

This is every 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" 6 pt shallow and deep, standard and metric socket that snap-on makes plus a 3/8" 12 pt SAE snap-on shallow set with space for a 3/8 12pt metric snap-on set (on order) and enough room after that for a set of torx external and driver set.

1/4" dr sockets on the left, 3/8" dr in the middle and 1/2" dr on the right. Largest 1/2" dr sockets on the right are 1-1/2"

I really like the Mechanics Time Savers rails... expensive but the magnetic bottom keeps them in place.

DSCN0581.jpg

Ratchets and breaker bars...

DSCN0585.jpg

Small wrenches. Two other drawers hold larger wrenches up to 1-5/8" OEX52B and 32mm OEXM320B

DSCN0582.jpg

DSCN0583.jpg

DSCN0584.jpg

Pretty much the full set of Knipex Pliers + some other stuff.

Other drawers not pictured hold Hammers, chisels, punches, torque wrenches, more MTS rails with hex drivers, etc and I still have a few empty drawers

You can fit a lot of stuff in one of these Extreme 56" boxes.

FYI... Most all the snap-on sockets and wrenches came from EBAY... 2 here... 1 there... Sets missing a socket, etc. None have any engravings on them and most are in like new condition. Took about a year to find them all but I got them for about 1/3 what it would have cost to have bought them new.

How deep is the top of the of the top box. I am wondering if you can put socket rails on the top also. Thanks, Can you take some picture of the top?
