Well, I tried the search option but didn't find out what I wanted....

Question: Is a rebuild kit still available for a New Britain 1/2" dr. ratchet? (NS-65)

I did find out through the search that New Britain, Sparta, and NAPA ratchets are grouped together (?).....does that mean the rebuild kits interchange?

I got a NS-65 the other day.....it's in great shape, cleaned up nice, and is super smooth BUT the socket retainer ball has collapsed (rusted, weak spring?) and it won't hold a socket

I'd love to get this ratchet useable again.....any help/info is appreciated
Anyone know where to get a rebuild kit? (probably to much to ask if it's still replaceable under warranty ;))

No kits available unless new old stock on ebay or somewhere.

Best bet is a donor ratchet. New Britain, Sparta, HUSKY, Mustang, Mac, etc. round heads of that style are all pretty much interchangeable. I've mixed and matched a couple. I think there are several different tooth count round heads in that style though so not all may fit yours.

Correct me if I'm wrong but no NAPA ratchet in that style.

Where is everybody are you all New Britained out yet or what? :)

Thanks for the info 3bay.
Yeah, I'll probably have to find a donor from one of the ones you mentioned....as far as the NAPA one being compatible, that is just what I read on some thread when I searched.

it is possibly to repair the detent ball, there was a thread on here a while back, need to remove the old one, find a suitable replacement and spring and reswage it in, not tried it myself yet, (was looking as the ball on one of my snap on f70n ratchets is a bit corroded and may need replace in the future, and the rebuild kits are black rather than chrome..)

found the links here, one is on another forum...

Thanks Ratchet,

In the back of my brain somewhere I remember reading the thread. :headscrat
When I discovered this ratchet's detent ball had collapsed, I thought I had read somewhere how to fix it, but I think the thread applied to detent balls that had an oiler hole on the other side so you could push out the ball and replace the spring. This ratchet has no oiler hole, and I'd have no idea how to remove the ball to get at the spring.....and IF I did get it out I would have no idea how to reswage the ball back in place!! :dunno:
