Hi everbody im new to the gj but have been looking on this site for about a year. In the begining i was going to have soneone else build my 24x30 garage addition but after looking at this site and getting 3 estiments ranging from $30.000 to $49.000 and with a budget of $22.000 the only way i was going to get my space to work on my projects was to build it my self. Being a mechanic and not a framer i new it wasnt going to be easy thank god for all the help from my freinds who gave up there weekends. After reading alot of build post on this site and seeing everyone build there dreams i was ready to build my own dream. Here is how i spent my funds $900.oo permit and variance hearing/ $4500.00foundation and flat work/$1200.00 dirt work/$14.000 lumber and supplies. With help from my freinds all the work was done with out hiring any thing out. The foundation and brick work was the hardest part of the build. In the end my addition is a 26 x 40 plus the 20 x 20 i stared out with. I now have lots of room cant wait to finish it this summer. Oh ya forgot to to tell you about the infloor hydronic heat will post some pic of the build [http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/member.php?u=113623] 2010-03-11 15.53.13.jpg

That looks like a great space! I think the satisfaction you get from doing it yourself is well worth the effort.

What is the project car? My old eyes can't see that small lol. Almost looks like an AMX but I'm probably wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Congrats on the new shop. Almost twice the size and half the price as your original bids. Whats the plan on showing your friend his old car? I would get it all fixed up and find his old high school girl friend and get her in the back seat and take pictures... ok I went too far. Welcome to GJ!

Thats a great ideal to bad amx never had back seats. Javelins are 1 foot longer and came with a back seat.as far as his old girl freind i would need a large town car if you know what i mean. When i get the car finished will send him some pics he now live in tn. Maybe a video of me burning the tires off. As far as the garage goes still need to finish inside drywall/car lift/boiler.also going to build a bump out addition on the back wall for tool and compressor. I am thinking 18feet long and 5 wide. Should be able to fit most of my tools/ brake lathe /exshaust bender /r134 a/c machine /.will have to wait till final building inspection and more money.

Waiting for it to warm up this am. Thinking about finishing the drywall around the walk thru between old and new garage. One of the last things on my list before final inspection.
