I passed my framing inspection today for my finished office and loft. I did find out that the window I had planned between the office and the 1st garage bay was a no go. It is a fire wall and the window would have to be a special and VERY EXPENSIVE window. So I framed it in before the inspector arrived.
The only inspections left is the electrical and the final for the occupancy permit. After electrical passes I can drywall and install plumbing fixtures.

I played around with my new router table tonight trying to create a pattern I like for my window and door trim. After restoring the 101 yr old door I decided the interior theme would change from "old gas station" to a "victorian old office" theme. I have been browsing the net to find old woodwork styles and have narrowed it down pretty close to what I want.
I have a bunch of cherry wood that I have had for a while and decided this would be a good use for it. It will be left unpainted and will be stained and polyurethaned. The piece I played with is pine but I am close to what I want. I included some pics of the general style I am going for. As a disclaimer the guy in the picture is NOT me and I take no credit for his beautifull work. His name is Adams and he restored an old victorian home in PA.

I think the victorian theme would be a first here, and would look really nice. We have done a weak impression of that in the office in my shop, except we had to use poplar and stain to achieve something like the look you have chosen. I'm still working on it.

I made a mockup today of my door trim in my office in my new building. I used pine to make this but the finished product will be made out of solid cherry wood. I have it almost where I want it, I think I need to make the header a little wider.

I reworked my door trim mockup today. I like the top/header a lot better on this version. I believe I am there, I wish I could start on the real thing but I can't put up drywall until I get my rough in electrical inspection. I am pretty much at a standstill until I get past the inspection.

Here is a pic of the old school lights and floor tile I am putting in my "Victorian office" in my new building. Notice the Texaco star above the light shade? The mozaic tile will have a dark grout to make it really pop.

I passed my electrical inspection with one stipulation. Thanks to my electrician not telling me exactly what to buy and then wiring up EVERY outlet into the metal boxes I installed that are not big enough to meet code I had to install "Handi box extenders" on to all my outlet and switch boxes. I had to pry the boxes that were nailed in to the studs and move them back and install the extenders and nail them back up and re-staple the MC cable back down. It took me about 4 hrs and cost me $100. But now it's done and I can drywall this weekend.

I insulated and hung drywall in my office today. It went slower than I thought, hanging the ceiling sucked and I put a lot of outlets and lights in so there was a lot of measuring and cutting out for them. I also got most of the decking down up in the loft. another day or two and the drwall will be done and I get to paint then lay mozaic tile. On vacation at the beach week after next then hit it hard. I am hoping to get my CO by the end of June.

I got the drywall almost completely done today, I still lack a couple sheets in the bathroom. I can tell you the fact that this is a commercial building is a PAIN IN THE A$$! I have to have handicap handrails in the bathroom and I am not sure yet but maybe a handicap toilet. I had to add wood between the studs to make sure I have a solid mounting surface for the handrails. I wasn't sure on the exact height so I used 2x10 material so I have some flexibility when mounting.
The man in the picture is my Father in-law, I couldn't ask for a better father in-law or friend than him. He has helped me on every project I have had over the years and never asked for anything in return. I do pay him but he takes it reluctantly, but I don't expect him to work so hard for nothing. He is 63 yrs old and can outwork most 20 yr olds.

I got the drywall taped and mudded today, one more finish coat and sanding then I am ready to paint. I cleaned up the shop today for the first time in a while and parked my F-350 inside. It is the first vehicle to park in the building.

Looking good. Those outlets will come in handy and soon you won't even remember what a pain it was to cut them all out. I always felt like it was a bonus when I was able to put up a 4X8 sheet that didn't require cutting any outlets, switches, etc...

Nice job on refinishing the door....I like your choice of trim design...Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I think I had 2 sheets of drywall that didn't have to be cut in any way in the whole build. I am working on the trim now and the drywall finishers got done today so I have some painting in my future.

I am on the home stretch now  I painted the primer coat today in the office. Tomorrow the color coat then I can put down my mozaic tile and start on the "victorian style" woodwork.

I am on the home stretch now. I got my new sign for the exterior today and they got the electricity on yesterday. I have my vintage reproduction lights up and my real antique victorian switch covers on. I also scored a nice victorian style mirror for the restroom. As I stated in an earlier post I am doing the interior in a victorian theme.

I finally finished grouting the new tile floor today, I am glad that is done, it is very hard on my knees, back and elbow. I also hung the bathroom door that I restored I have not installed the snowflake frosted glass yet, I still need to find some door knob plates, I will use the old crusty ones until I find some I like. I did find some 100 plus year old victorian hinges, I am hoping to find some matching door knob plates. I also got the restroom fixtures installed. Now for some cherry trim work. I plan on moving in next week.

I installed my new sign today, it mimics a Texaco logo but is customized for my used car lot. Them pic installed is a little far away but you get the idea. Now I have to get the green porcelain gooseneck lights installed over the two walk thru doors.

Very nice, do you have any 100% completed pics, any complaints or forgotten items and what was the final tally?

I don't mind at all, I think I had some details on the building in an older post but the building cost $16,300 with no windows and doors. The cost of 3 OH rollup doors, 2 walk thru doors and 2 windows was about 2K. I installed them it was cheaper than buying them from National Barn. The slab including fill dirt and gravel, wire mesh and vapor barrier was about 5K.
I have had no issues with build quality at this point and don't really expect any. If you want to see more info on the finishing of the office find the thread titled "victorian Texaco (the oxymoron).
