New chop saw stand

I have been meaning to make a more permanent solution for my abrasive chop saw... I had been storing it under my work bench, and every time I wanted to use it I'd set up sawhorses or a work table, complete the job and put it all away again. It was kind of a pain, and not too convenient especially for small projects.

I wanted something portable, so I could wheel it around my shop as needed and tuck it away in a corner when not in use. It was also important that it be stable, but I wanted to keep a small footprint so it wouldn't take up too much space. After reading a on of threads and looking at all sorts of pictures, I had a design in my head, I went to the local steel yard and built it-

The base is 1 1/4" plate. All the tube is 1/8" thick. It' pretty heavy, but well balanced so not hard to move on the stand.

When not in use, the material rest slides into a holder on the back, and doubles as the handle-

With the saw mounted. It's VERY stable... With the material rest, I can work with longer pieces easily, if they are super long, I just use a separate stand to support the end.

I added a 25' power cord and a 4 outlet box to it. It always seems like I am using other tools (grinders, etc) when I am using the chop saw, and this way I can keep them all plugged in at the same time. Also, I don't have to search for an unused extension cord.

It wheels around the shop nicely on the 7" solid wheels, and they also provide a bit more stability when the saw is in use. Overall, I am happy with it.

Another plus is that since it’s mostly used steel, it was less than $50, and that’s with the wheels setting me back $20!

Not sure why the pics are posting that way!

Looks like a great idea, the portability is nice and it doesn't take up much room. My back is always killing me after using mine on the floor.

I like it. I built a stand for my chopsaw too. but it stays outside. I can set the saw into the frame and use it then remove the saw and store it inside when done.

I can see where having it outside would be ideal.. they are messy! I usually set mine up in front of the roll up door to keep as much of the mess out as possible

Nice work. Very well thought out and clean. If I hadn't already made one, I'd copy it. Mine was repurposed from an old die filer stand. It works well, but not as slick as yours. I use the chop saw a lot more, now that it has its own roll stand.

Thanks. Yeah, i find I use it a lot more when it’s easy to get out and put away

you need a arm on the right side to, for longer stuff. Very nice, like battleship gray!

Very clever! I just might have to steal this one
My thoughts also, Nice set-up.

I may also use part of your design for a cold-saw I just refurbished.
I like the portable aspect of your stand but my cold-saw weighs around 80-lbs. alone, So I will probably need a wider base to off-set the saw's extra weight.

Couple of nice stands for sure - personally I found the best stand for an ABRASIVE chop saw was at my SON's place, with a request to NEVER return it... got 3 metal band saws, plenty of cutoff disks for side grinders, plasma and O/A torches and a cheap HF skil saw with their metal cutting blades on it - use 'em ALL depending on the job.

Still drooling over cold saws, and since I don't do non-ferrous materials much the 3' "magnetic broom" catches all the small chunks from steel-cutting circular saws just fine... Steve

Mounted saw on a turntable so I can do angle cuts.

Cord reel in side the cab gives me power for grinders and such.

The roll stops keep me from chasing it around the shop.

It collapses nicely and lets me roll it out of the way when not in use.

That's really nice - innovative thinking!

Very nice! Any details of the turntable construction?
