I sent a message to Wilde asking if they do indeed make these and if they would be available with their logo on them for the reasons I mentioned above. They responded by asking to see pictures of the pry bars I was inquiring about. Maybe they don't make them for cman?!? :dunno:

"cbus" or anyone else,
Which pry bar lengths of the new Craftsman red striking bars are available at your Sears stores?

Going by the photos: 12" (43269), 17" (43370), 25" (43383), and 36" (43387).

One of my nearby stores (Dayton, OH) had the 12" and 17" in open stock.

The handles have the manufacturer code 'P' and the beams are stamped 'WK' identical to the previous Craftsman pry bars which were absolutely made by Wilde Tool.

The last time I looked into this I thought the plastic handled ones were Wilde and the striking end ones were Mayhew. I could be mistaken.

Just remember: It's Sears. If they are reading at 39.99 and haven't been in the stores for long, they haven't gone on the standard 50% 24/7 sale pricing (to claim sale status).

I'll check for them tomorrow and see if they're in our store's system yet. I'll tell you guys if a promo price is upcoming and what the regular price is.

I just left my local Sears. These new bars seem pretty nice. I prefer the new textured grip to the old non-professional red handles.

The one thing I don't like is how small the striking cap is. I think they should've made it just a little bit bigger.

I saw these at my Sears. They seem like an improvement over the old ones. They are definitely somewhere in between the old pros and the regular. If they are made by Wilde then they should be fine.

Got an update on the prices. So far, nothing is showing as promo pricing (upcoming pricing) and the current prices are the regular prices. As such, they most likely will drop in price in the coming months as is usual (but it's not showing yet in the systems).

I do like that the 36" is now striking cap. Wondering if someone can grab one and take the handle off to see how deep they go/if they go fully to the cap (hard plastic handles vs the rubberized non-strikers). The handle does give grip when dry, but I don't see it as better than the rubber except in cleaning it.

Brownsfan,

Which Sears location near you has the new striking pry bars in stock?

Which pry bar lengths are in stock at this location?

Thanks,

Dave

I saw them at the Sears in Middleburg Heights. The sizes that I remember seeing were 12" 17" 31" & 36" Might have had a 25" but I don't remember.

Same here. Middleburg Hts. The local Sears Appliance and Hardware still had a bunch of the old versions and still had a couple sets of the pros.

Well, I guess I'm different. I do not like rubbery type handles, and those appear to be a similar handle to the craftsman professional screwdrivers that were made in the USA.

I have a set of the Wilde red handle bars at my hobby shop. I do not mind them. It's not often but if I have to hit the handle with a hammer, I've yet to crack one. I also have had snap on pry bars at work for 20 years. They are the old plastic hard handle without striking cap. Haven't ever busted one of them, either. :dunno:

Timmy, Does your store still have the big box of opened ratchet repair parts?
My guess is that some one threw them all out.

We still have and use them.

We also have at least 6 of the new prybar sets (currently 39.99) and about 15 of the old sets (still $19.97 or something). The old sets are in the back stock room (floor people are lazy at restocking).

You say they appear similar, but I wonder if you've held them yet?

I have and they aren't rubbery at all. More of a hard stippled texture really.
If you have a chance to hold them in person I'd take it and see what you think.

Bought this today on sale for $45. Played around with it a bit and it seems pretty solid. It actually flexes less than my 24" Mac. The adjustable jaw is surprisingly strong. I suspect that will be the first part to break, if any, but I don't plan on abusing this. I have larger 36" and 48" bars I'll use before putting a cheater on this new one. Time will tell. Made in Taiwan, not China so that's a plus..

Man, it's a sad day when you make a statement like that...

It's amazing to me that you can't find any of these new ones online anywhere!

Those look interesting. I like the textured handle. Perhaps a visit to sears is called for.....

Thanks for sharing,

No more $20 3 PC sets I guess. I wonder who is the OEM for these ? Still Wilde or Mayhew?

Allready in for a set out of all my prybars. None of mine have a striking cap so bit the bullet and got a set. Also helped that I had surpise points to get them out the door for $12 and some change. You can never have too many prybars. Not on this forum anyway lol.

I'm pretty sure its the same exact thing as the ones Sear's was selling before (red-handled). Since the sub $20 sets were selling out fast---to keep up with demand and cost-to-manufacturing ratio within a tolerant range, Sears revamped the design a little to help keep prices low and attractive. ;)

Keeping fingers crossed that other Craftsman products will follow suit and be Made in the USA again.

I seriously doubt they are going back to us made in any major way. Especially as the brand gets sold off.

They are a hard handle, not soft. The grip looks similar to the grip on my older Cman 24" prybar made by Wilde, except with a pattern on the plastic instead of a glossy finish. Very reminiscent of tbe proto hard plastic handle ratchet i own.

Here's a better pic of the handle.

For ohio peeps, these were at the sears in chapel hill mall cuyahoga falls oh

They had singles including 31" and 36". Also noticed the Lisle USA brand tap sockets were on sale for $20, unfortunately it was either pry bars or sockets.

A lot of mixed reviews on Lisle Sockets, wish I could have hold off my purchase on Mayhew Pro Pry Bars from earlier this year

The Sear's deal looks like an absolute score

Here is another pic, the 25" measures out to only 24-5/8"
Older craftsman non-strike 25" prybar is 25-1/8"
17" is actually 16-7/8"
12" is 12-1/8"
Forgot to measure big proto for reference

I received a set of the new pry bars for my birthday. The set of all 5. Had to drill the holes in my sunex pry bar holder. The only thing I can compare them to is a set of Harbor freight bars. They will more than likely last me a life time.
