I finally started my garage addition after a couple years of exploring options. We thought about moving and we decided we like where we lived and did not want to borrow more money to get a place where I could build a large shop.

So I got a 26x28 addition to my existing garage approved and they dug footings and poured pad this week. The roughing crew will be here tomorrow to get started. I will post pics and update as progress continues. I will be keeping my 22x22 garage and adding this onto house.

Well made some progress today. Rain cut the guys a little short. Hope to have it under roof tomorrow.

Nice job. Welcome to Garage Journal!!!! If you would, could you put the state you live in into your profile? No need for a city, but a state helps to answer questions that comes up at times. Thanks.

And again WELCOME. Looking forward to the updates, and hope you stay on Garage Journal for the long haul.

And for ones that may not know, you have to scroll sideways to see all of the pics. Most are off to the right.

That rear door will allow a nice breeze through the garage on hot days. Took me a minute to figure out the original garage is behind the exposed OSB. 1,200 sq ft is a nice size for a garage/shop combo. What are you going to be doing in your new space? Hot rods, motorcycles, machining, woodworking, ??? If it is greasy or dirty you need to think about a sink for washing up before you go into the house. Your wife will be tickled to have you nearby while you work on your projects as long as she does not have to deal with tracked in sawdust and greasy door knobs.

Ya thought about sink but it's not heated all the time. Would be easy though all the plumbing is right on the one wall.

Well not to good of news today at electrical inspection. Looks like my house only has 100amp service and someone put a 150amp breaker in panel. So now I have to upgrade to 200amp to make everything right. Got two quotes already one from a company $1650 to upgrade to 200amp. The other was from a Electrican at work for $800. So just trying to weight it out. He approved my rough in garage but said I won't pass final without addressing the panel issue.

On a side note brick layers put first few courses down and got flashing inspection so they come back tomorrow.

Well rough building inspection was today. Everything was good they laughed at all of the lvl's I used. The architect called them all out so that's what we used. Funny I was there for inspection and all the inspectors wanted to do was talk about cars. I started insulating today. Going to do a little bit every day. Drywall goes in next weekend. Then I can get doors on and this thing closed up.

Thanks car was one of reasons for garage addition. Plus I have always wanted a lift. Now working on it won't be a pain laying on the ground.

Looks good, did the brick match OK?

It matches ok. The four samples they game me all matched good. The problem is the ratio of the four brick colors. There was only one dark one out of the four so I assumed that it was in that ratio. Well it's more like a 30% mix of dark. We might get some color matched paint from dark sample and paint a few more of the brick in older portion of the house. I will try to get some closeup pics.

I took an old house down in the country several years ago. Long abandoned it had a single 15 amp 120 volt fused circuit for lights and a radio. These days 100 amp electrical service is considered the minimum and 200 amp is the norm. Considering the size of your shop/garage and what you are going to do in it I think upgrading to a 200 amp service is a smart move.

Got mustang back home looks like all my measurements checked out. Even with garage door open I can lift it 6'2" so car is off ground 6-8" so even my tallest friends will be able to walk under car on lift. I will gain almost 10" if I have to close garage door. Truck stuff will have to be done on a stool most likely.

Got a little time to start work bench. Still have to beef up legs and build shelves under it.
