Are you going to cut up the thunderbird to make a desk? What about restoring the thunderbird It doesn't look too bad !

I know...when it came in, it turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be. I haven't taken the torch to it yet, but it's not a resto project that I can take on right now.

If I find someone who wants to buy it as a resto project as is, I'd sell it, but if not, I'm gonna use the front end and part the rest out. It has a near-perfect chassis, so I'm looking to find someone who wants a complete chassis with motor, trans, suspension, etc. Engine compartment is virtually untouched by the fire except for the battery and some of the wiring on the firewall. With new spark plug wires, I'm guessing the motor would fire right up. Looks like it was a very nice original, or possibly an older restoration, before it had the dash fire.

I also had someone suggest that, even if I take the front end sheetmetal, it would be an excellent vintage racer with a flip-up 'glass front clip.

Most of flake portion of the floor went in today -- looks better than I thought it would. I was worried that I wouldn't like it and I should have done more of the "marble" look, but it looks good and will work well for traction and hiding dirt.

Step 1 of the checkerboard pattern is done...need to wait until next week to do step 2 for the rest of the black squares. Taking much longer than anticipated, so I'm still at least 2 weeks away from getting cars moved in...

Wow, I love the looks of that floor. That beats the black and white checks by so much:rocker::rocker::bowdown::bowdown:

As far as the T-Bird...where did you happen to find it? The reason I ask is that my dad and I, years ago, redid a 'Bird for the guys son. We literally had to strip the car with a blowtorch and putty knife. The paind buildup was som much that it as almost 1/4" think in places. I think it was something like 12 layers of paint.

Dad and I worked for a few months solid on it and painted it back to white. The last I heard the car was still in Florida but had been painted a couple of times. BTW...the son that originally owned the car was murdered supposingly in a drug deal that went south.

Well, the blowtorch work on this one is pretty much done (!). I got it form an insurance salvage auction. Based on the data plate it was originally a white car with black/white interior.

Jealous is not the word. The brick would have matched my house. So now that you've painted it you have to keep it :laugh But I love the painted brick look. Around PA I see it a lot on OLD houses but never new ones. That was a Brilliant idea! WOW the Floor ... I dont usually go for modern garage floors but yours is really nice. I have something to aspire too here.... Congrats. I take it you are in the automotive industry then?

You garage is just stunning. A couple questions for you
1) did you do the floor yourself. I was looking for that but may have missed it.
2) How helpful was the distributor on how to do it.

3) Again it looks great.

Thanks. No...I think you need some experience with the flooring materials and floor prep to make sure that the finished surface holds up to chemicals and hot tires. Also, the design required some thought...I had input, but the "artist" pulled it all together.

The flooring contractor is Mike at Atlanta Concrete Artist (www.atlantaconcreteartist.com) and the product is HP Spartacote (www.hpspartacote.com). Mine is still a work in progress, but I've seen some of Mike's other jobs and they're amazing.

Here's a video of one of his recent jobs:
. Note the diamond plate base molding in the video -- I'm doing that also....its supposed to arrive by the end of next week (diamondlifegear.com).

Phase 2 of checkerboards went in today, still trying to figure out best way to do "grout" lines between checkers and then he can sand & clear coat.

Utility sink also went in...hopefully last thing that needs to be finished in order to get final inspection done (scheduled for tomorrow).

I'm in awe of your garage, really never seen one as nice. Its the kind of place you would expect to see Ferrari's and Lamborghini's.

That T-bird you are planning to made a desk out of, that's kind of a shame to do that to a car with so much american love of cars history. I may be wrong, but I believe I've seen front clips made into desks and couches from the early Birds and a couple of other cars, factory made units out of fiberglass. They do look cool.

Its a Vette but probably what your after, except something cooler I suspect.

What would it take for you to part with the burned up one? Just wondering if its even feasible or not for me.

I think your neighbor most likely is the kind of guy who gives people a hard time who has more then he does? Anyway, I know the type.

Nice build, can't want to see it all finished and full of toys!

Mm

Simply beautiful. That floor is going to be a huge highlight of your garage, never seen anything quite like it.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks. No Italian exotics on the horizon for me so far...mostly 60s & 70s GM stuff and a few Germans right now.

I hear ya on the Tbird, when I bought it, I really thought it would be worse than it turned out to be. I think it really wouldn't need much mechanically, but would need interior, top, wiring, all trim except front end and rear bumper, and obviously a good bit of bodywork. I'd need to get $4300 as it sits if you wanted to rescue it. I think the best idea for it would be to put a fiberglass front end on it (after I make the desk), and make it a vintage racer.

No idea what motivates the problem neighbor, still have never met the guy.

Thanks...hope to get some 'after' pics with some wheeled residents in place in a couple of weeks.

Thanks. The floor gets better every day, but I still want it to be done! They're out there right now fixing up the red borders on the checkerboard areas. Next will be sanding, putting down the 'grout' lines, then clear coat.

Chrome "grout" lines & clear coat went on today - looks pretty good & still gets a final sanding and another coat of clear.

Diamond plate base molding got delivered & I set one of the corners in place to see how it will look -- with the gloss flake floor and the polished base molding, its hard to tell where the floor stops and the wall starts. Pretty cool look.

Awesome build! Floor looks superb:thumbup:

Thanks.

Floor just (finally) got done about an hour ago. The floor 'artist' was such a perfectionist, that I had to sort of get him to stop nit-picking his own work and finish it up.

The glitter border is a bit much, but looks OK with the final clear coat, cuts down on the glittery-ness (wife saw the glitter last night before the clear coat and wanted to know if there was something I needed to tell her :headscrat ).

It is supposed to be dry enough to be driveable tomorrow, but I'm gonna give it and extra day or two to really harden up. So close....

The floor in that place is just fantastic!!!

Thanks -- I agree. He did an amazing job & the pictures really don't do them justice.

When the baseboards are in, the flooring material company is supposed to do some professional photos for their catalog...I'll post 'em when I get 'em.

Re: New Garage Almost Done -- Resident #1

Was supposed to wait until tomorrow, but couldn't resist bringing resident #1 home today -- woo hoo! :D

Security cameras going in today also...I'll get to see all the babies tucked away safely from anywhere...

Some more puppies came home, but still waiting for some interior windows to be put in, and still waiting for install of the diamond plate base molding.

Got the first two Garage Pals cabinets yesterday, and the diamond plate chemical rack/towel holder for the sink. Still waiting for a custom Garage Pals cabinet/work surface to go in between the two 6' cabinets.

Just hit the 7 month mark and the contractor is done...got the CO last week and the baseboard trim went in tonight. Just a bit of paint touch up and its ready to move stuff in.

The last of the Garage Pals stuff was delivered tonight and we put up the GP sink caddy. Way too much drywall dust floating around...need to get a good clean up done tomorrow...

Finally just finished the desk for my office above the garage. Took a lot longer than I hoped to get it done, and still waiting for glass top, but excited to have it in place so I can start using the office soon.

Every desk needs a car horn -- sort of like a Gong Show gong for the office. Dog hates the horn though and won't come in anymore.

Desk came out great and the rest of the Tbird went to a good home for the rest of its good parts to live on in other Small Birds.

Man, your place is UNBELIEVABLE !! By far the nicest and well thought out...enjoy:D

Thanks for the compliments. Not nearly as nice as some of the ones on the forums here, but it fits the neighborhood and zoning as best we could, and I've got a lot of great ideas from everyone here.

Great garage, I would definently like to see that in person some day. I like the decorations, especially the Olds Convertible.

Thanks -- let me know if you make it down to the ATL one day.

Looks like you're into Olds also...here's one sharing garage space with the 66 convertible tonight...
