I spent years trying to get my son interest in cars. It just never did anything for him. Don't get me wrong he is a great kid and is always willing to help but he was just not having a good time.
Turns out I had the wrong kid in the garage. My daughter had an incident involving a brick wall and her BMW 318IS did not survive. Fortunately the airbags went off as designed so she and the passenger were unhurt. After a few weeks of searching I scored another 318Is for $500. It had an "unknown" mechanical problem of some sort. Battery was dead and the alarm would go off every time they tried to jump start it. I cut the wire to the siren hit the by-pass button and drove it up on the trailer. Turns out the clutch was not slipping as the previous owner had thought. They had over heated the engine and blown the head gasket. No problem brick wall car still had a good engine.
Well it turns out the little Princess is a pretty good mechanic.
She dove in and had as much grease and grime covering her by the end of the day as I did. I think I taught her a few things in the process. She stuck with me until the end and even helped scrub down the shop the next day.
I just feel sorry for any poor boy that tries to tame this one. I can hear it now "That's not the way my Daddy does it" or "Just call my Dad He'll tell you how to do it right". It's good to be the king in someone's eyes, well at least for a little while until I don't cave in and get her the next gadget she wants.
Anyone else ever find an unexpected garage buddy?
Mike
