I spent years trying to get my son interest in cars. It just never did anything for him. Don't get me wrong he is a great kid and is always willing to help but he was just not having a good time.

Turns out I had the wrong kid in the garage. My daughter had an incident involving a brick wall and her BMW 318IS did not survive. Fortunately the airbags went off as designed so she and the passenger were unhurt. After a few weeks of searching I scored another 318Is for $500. It had an "unknown" mechanical problem of some sort. Battery was dead and the alarm would go off every time they tried to jump start it. I cut the wire to the siren hit the by-pass button and drove it up on the trailer. Turns out the clutch was not slipping as the previous owner had thought. They had over heated the engine and blown the head gasket. No problem brick wall car still had a good engine.

Well it turns out the little Princess is a pretty good mechanic. She dove in and had as much grease and grime covering her by the end of the day as I did. I think I taught her a few things in the process. She stuck with me until the end and even helped scrub down the shop the next day.

I just feel sorry for any poor boy that tries to tame this one. I can hear it now "That's not the way my Daddy does it" or "Just call my Dad He'll tell you how to do it right". It's good to be the king in someone's eyes, well at least for a little while until I don't cave in and get her the next gadget she wants.

Anyone else ever find an unexpected garage buddy?
Mike

Mike pretty kewl . I also only have one " out of 5 " that really wants to come out in the garage and just happens to have turned 16 this year . The problem is she thinks " my " 62 Ford Unibody is hers and I have to keep reminding her the only way she will ever drive it is after my funeral services are over :D.

Great story- gives me hope as I too only have girls. My 6 yr old will only stay in the garage if her music is playing; but my 3 year old will spend all day in the garage. She has her favorite car picked out (1970 GTO Judge- good taste) and sits in it and pretends to drive it constantly.

This is my girlfriend's daughter, she reminds me a lot of me when I was a kid. Always entertaining herself and making things from nothing. She loves to play in the garage. I save every scrap of wood I make and she finds something to make with it. She has welded and will jump right in when I'm working on a car, she makes a great brake bleeder!

That's awesome. She would be welcome to help out in my garage anytime.
Nothing better than a kid who wants to spend time with you doing the things you do and enjoys it as much as you.

It seems that the teenage need for transportation is a strong incentive to get a little grease under the fingernails.

Good job Pops! She’ll remember and brag about this forever.

“Yah…My Dad and I had to swap engines after the wreck. But it was no big deal…”

I love the pictures of the little ones helping out.

Mine thought we should just go ahead and finish the 68 fastback and she would just drive that for awhile. I told her I would be buried in it so she does not even get it when I die.

And you know who to leave your tools to.
My wife will have to have a garage sale, because no-one in our family tree is worth leaving my stuff to. They'd all use screwdrivers to open and stir paint, and wrenches for hammers, and other unspeakable acts.

And the little girl in the welding helmet is a keeper, too!

Too cool. My wife still complains that she wasn't really ever involved or invited to play "with the boys" when her dad took the sons out to ride dirtbikes etc... it's a great bonding experience and I am sure she better appreciates what goes into a project like that!

OMG I wish my sister was like your daughter, she has NO interest in anything mechanical and figures she will call her brother to fix stuff.

Love the Mustang!!

In the past my wife was always beside me n the garage. Then she figured out cleaning the valve covers was not the fun part. I may have abused that opportunity. She still passes through on occasion and is always willing to help bleed brakes etc. Her dad was a motor head and she still has the spark inside. Now that the kids are grown up maybe I can get the fire lit again. uhhhh that could be taken wrong I am referring to helping on the project cars.

Good thought on the Tools Steevo I had not even considered who they would go too. May need to put them in the 68 when they put me under. I'm not letting the wifes new husband touch them.
