Cool site. I am sure I will get a bunch of usefull infor from here.

Anyway we obtained a house very cheap from a relative who passed away. So we decided to renovate the house. There was a one car horse barn on the property that was taken down to make room for my new nest. I was allowed up to 25% of square footage of property for secondary building. Well, it helps to have an acre lot in the village :bounce: . Of course I went with something I could afford. The bad part was that the village doesn't allow pole barns so I had to go the pricy route. Framing should start this week. The footer is 24" by 1", with a 3' by 10" wall. I also ran utilities under the slab area for future hook up.

Its 32 wide, 42 deep. Front two left bays are for daily driver parking. Right bay and rear three bays are for toys. The bus belongs to the chruch next door, but gives you a feel for size. There will be a small second floor room too. I'll keep you folks updated.

wow, that sucker is going up fast, I'll be pouring the footers for my 36 X 60 tomorrow, but the dry in is still at least 4 weeks away. Block and rakers take lots more time than frame construction. Down here in the swamp, block is the first choice material, given our huMUDity and hurricanes.
I'm a lot more at home stick building with wood, like you are. Layin' block is a whole new ballgame for me, must be that "old dog, new tricks" thing... Keep the pics coming! RED

Update with another Pic

I worked on prepping for the slab this weekend. I racked about 20 tons of stone in place, laid poly doawn and 2" foam board. Then followed up with 10 ga wire mesh. I also hooked up one end of the floor tubing before the winds got real bad. Next weekend I will layout the floor tubing and make connections to the header.

Phase one is completed. Its been inspected and is ready for me to do phase two, which is the inside.

My plan is to get wiring and natural gas out to the garage in late January. I'll start insulating and drywall at the same time. I have a few projects in the house to get to so I can get the last draw from our renovation mortgage.

Very impressive. I like scrolling up to the first pic with the schoolbus and then scrolling back down to the nearly complete garage. :willy_nil

I like the 'old style' look. Very tastefully done.

Thanks for the compliments all. I hope to draw on the folks here for interior stuff. I had to have the 'look' to satisfy the local preservation society. Did it cost me to keep them happy. I would have much rather paid for a pole barn. But in the end this is certainly a nicer building.
