Hi All

Been around for a little while and love this site. I am starting a new project in MA. I had two sheds and was running out of space. The wife did not want a third shed (can't imagine why :headscrat) So we decided to get rid of both and build one large building.

We looked at prefab garages and stickbuilt and really did not see anything we really liked - we wanted something different and did not want it to just look like an extension of the house. Thanks to Bull and others on the site we saw Geobarns. That was pretty much it.

We met with George and came up with some ideas and the cost difference between what we were looking at and what george offered was not that much more. But what you get is a true standout building. Go to www.geobarns.com or seach for geobarns on this site and you will see what I am talking about.

We were looking at 24x24 but thanks to this site we have decided on 24x30.

Digging started yesterday and foundation will be in the next couple of days. We then have to wait for george's crew to start in March. It's going to be a long three months of anticipation - but I am sure it will be worth it.

We are upgrading to 200 amp in the house and running 100 amp to the barn.

Stay tuned...

Thanks - The excavator is at a stand still for now - too much loam, not enough fill. They have to inspect and then get some fill brought in so they can put in foundation- shouldn't be too big money. they are going to level out some of my yard with the loam afterwards so that will be good. May have some left over -we'll see.

they are going to have to bring in some more fill later as well.

Sweet, another Geobarn!

George's "waste pile" amazes me - Don't count on lumber scraps to run your woodstove; or to even have a decent bonfire at the "open barn" party.

Oh man, am I glad to see this thread. I eagerly await the unfolding of the story.

Do you know which guys will be working on your barn? I am sure they are all good, but I am of course partial to Justin and Andrew.

Foundation poured today. Good thing I was here because the guys were not aware they had to leave holes for conduit.

They'll take down the forms tomorrow. Inspection Monday. Then we need to backfill and trench for conduits. Then a long wait till march. Hopefully sooner but I am not getting my hopes up.

Forms pulled this morning. Looks good.

Glad that they are going to spread the loam over the yard - it really got trashed

Now if I could only get my contractor to start sooner!

arrghhh a foot of snow expected between sunday and monday. That I am sure is not going to help when they have to back fill. Also is not going to allow them to spread loam around. Looks like my yard is going to be dirt mounds till spring. I'm sure the neighbors are going to love that

got hit for a 4 grand overage for adding fill, spreading out loam, to level the site, and remove excess loam. It ***** but there was not too much that could be done. We did not expect my site to be so much loam. They brought in truckloads of fill both for under the foundation and to backfill it.

As if this project is not costing me enough-my car was totalled this week. I was heading to the airport and a car in front of me swerved to avoid the car in front of him - I had no time to stop and went into the back of a pickup at about 50. My passenger airbag went off but not mine- disturbing.

Got a little banged up but thank goodness no worse than a very sore tailbone and a bump on the head. Some soreness all around as well.

Now I have to buy a new car- so there's another 25-30k

I am looking at highlanders as a certified preowned. I was going to get a pickup - too much money.

Oh well- that's life

Sorry to hear about the accident, I think the Highlander is made by Toyota right? We've owned a few Toyota's and they have been good to us

Thanks

Just talked to george yesterday. He is trying juggle some crews and have one from maine come down and work on mine starting early next month. I don't have a problem with that except FOR THE 4+ FEET OF SNOW IN MY SIDE YARD AND THE 3 FEET IN MY BACK YARD!!!

let's hope for an early thaw...

Sorry to hear about you accident , airbags are generally triggered individually . So there was either a heavier impact on the passenger side or a lower trigger threshold for that side as passengers don't have a steering wheel to hang on too.
Accidents , had a few always amazes me how quick they happen :)

Need ya one of those Weed burner propane torches - Might take awhile, and use a small fortune in Propane, but it'd melt the snow!

Gabe, I live in Manchester MA and I am looking at doing a prefab or something similar. If you don't mind, what was the general estimate for the whole project (Barn, slab...)

Actually - I am Jeff

Gabe is my son - hence gabedad

This is definitely not prefab.

We are talking about 50k plus electric. I had an extra 4k in the slab because I needed extra fill and backfill.

The shell is about 34k The foundation was 14

I checked prefab and they were a little less - look at gbi avis http://www.gbi-avis.com/

It was still in the 40's but does not compare in quality and style.

Local guy quoted 45 for a stick built- but again not a geobarn.

Electric will probably run about 5-6k with a 200 amp upgrade at the house and 100 amp panel in the barn.

So awesome!

I don't know those guys, but I'm not surprised that they are nice. George seems only to hire nice, decent folks!

Progress looks great, and I bet you are excited as heck. Keep us posted :)
