It's really looking awesome. The quality of the wood and the artisan work of these guys are making it a truly memorable experience.

Nice looking barn design. I have not heard of Geobarns, but will check them out. I started a thread on here documenting the little shop that I'm building. I am building it myself with my crew. Looking forward to seeing what you've got going, where are you located in MA? You can PM me if you prefer. I'm in Kingston on the South Shore.

Beautiful. Do you know if the material is purchased locally, or do they have it brought in from VT? (or maybe ME?)

They bring it in from VT. The big beams are hemlock. The other option was douglas fir - but would have added a few thousand to the job- not worth it in our opinion. The quality of the wood is really amazing. Even the carpenters are emailing their friends about the quality of the wood. Their friends are jealous.

It was funny . I went into lowes lumber isle- no comparison.

I was at The Home Depot this Saturday picking up some plywood and 2X's to make some concrete forms. It took me almost an hour to find two pieces of plywood and 20 studs that were decent. PIA!!

Terrific progress and a beautiful structure. I don't know how George finds all these different crews that each uphold the same standards of speed, efficiency, and precision.

How many days are they estimating total, from start of framing to completion of the shell?

about 3 weeks or so.

Matt - the lead has worked with george on several geobarns. This is his first solo so they are taking their time. They are really going about it like it is finish work they said- just getting everything right.

The other guys lee and dave are great. They really like the project and love the quality of the lumber. My wife is taking good care of them. She has coffee out for them in the morning and has been making them lunches on the weekends when they are here.

She's cooks more for them than for me!

Metal roof is going on today - so that will be awesome.

Frickin snow!!! Slab pour has been put off till next week. They are saying up to a foot of snow friday - and it's not an april fools joke.

On a good note - roof is up and diagonal framing is going up.

Looking good. Make sure you get plenty of pics of the diagonal framing before the shiplap goes up. Those shots make for great B&W framed photos.

This news about a storm sounds too sketchy. Out here, they are saying it all depends on where the storm tracks. I call BS, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. I already put away the darn snowblower!!

Thanks Bull - Good Idea. I really have not been taking a lot of pictures - but the crew has - I am just going to grab their memory stick. I am going to take some today - thanks for reminding me.

Living in mass as you know - you can never tell about the weather. I moved up here in
'97. March 31 60 degrees April 1 - 30 inches of snow!

Go figure..

My crew is amazing. They are true artisans and are taking such pride in their work.

They went above and beyond are are starting to make artistic enhancements to the design. These chevrons are so cool. I wish I could make a window out of them.

IT"S DONE!!!!

Well the building is done. The Guys were awesome and the quality superb.

Next is getting it stained and getting a garage door. The wife and I are going to look at garage doors later this week or early next.

Electrical is next. The conduit is in the slab but they have to wire the box and then I have to figure out wiring and electrical for lighting and outlets.

Also my darned block and tack is too short- no it's not personal thing either
Better pictures to come soon- too rainy out today.

Looks terrific. Also seems you are smart, and had the cupola boards stained prior to install.

Did you have them install a building wrap, or are the boards nailed directly to the bare studs?

Thanks bull - it's wrapped

Yes I stained about 15 boards before - did not want to risk painters up on the metal roof.

Too bad they needed another 12 boards or so stained - but they did it themselves.

I wonder if there are any like builders over here in the Great Lakes?

I know I haven't seen any builds that look this good in person or on GJ in this area.

Thanks JC - Get in touch with george on the geobarns sight - you never know. I know he is starting to expand to a more national level. Look at pippin hill farm in VA . He is building a HUGE geobarn project - something like 30 times the size of my barn - maybe more

Tax-a -chusetts strikes again. I just got an email from the assessors office that they need to come out and assess the new barn.

I new it was coming but not this soon. I have not even had final inspection.

I am sure they are going to bend me over ....

assessor came by - not too bad. They said it would at 10-25k on to the value and it will probably be at the lower end. They are also going to determine whether it will be registered as a barn or a garage and they will do it which ever is cheaper to me

All in all it is not going to raise it that much - a couple of hundred bucks maybe

Again, terrific build.

Do you have a floor plan?

And, with a dormer, is the loft space usable?

I'm trying to squeeze a small one bedroom apt/one car parking into the size you built. It may be a fools errand, but I'm qualified:)

Thanks. Just beautiful.

That's a beautiful building!

What kind of stain was used on it? I love the color as it really brings out the warm feeling that a wood barn has.
