Looks like you've got all weekend!Congratulations. Finish line is in sight.
Doors Tuesday? Great, I don’t have to be in as bunch hurry to load my trailer with the stuff I’m storing at your place.![]()
Safety first….or is that third?Cones and red buckets covered the copper water pipes sticking up next to the slab so the installers didn't hit or trip over them and snap one off.
Well Chris, I might owe you a smack in the head. Garage door installers showed up this morning and started unloading and setting up. Laid out the tracks, high=lift extensions, panels, parts. I started doing a mental inventory and asked where the panels were for the 15' door. They told me that only the two 12' doors are being installed now. Apparently while they were loading up this morning they noticed that the spring assembly and side tracks for the 15' door were missing. These are commercial high cycle doors and those parts are not common or interchangeable. THEY HAVE BEEN STORING THESE DOORS FOR FOUR MONTHS !! And nobody ever checked them until today. I called the manager and told him I should have gotten this news from him, not his installers. He apologized and said he's been making calls all day trying to get the situation remedied. He has no idea when the parts will be in his hands. So this is what I have until who knows when. They're coming back tomorrow to finish the weatherstrips and openers.Congratulations John , its great to see that something has finally gone in your favor.....Hope I didn't jinx you more

That *****.Sorry to hear about you hole, I mean door issue. I hope they resolve it fast.
If it makes you feel any better, my hole project is at a stand still. Very little work has been done for weeks and the paver contractor is still 2 weeks away from starting, and they can't do anything else until the pavers are done.

So that's where the Shorty nickname comes from; mystery solved.... experienced at making sparks.

The shortage of trainable help is astounding. The garage door kid had the balls to tell me there was no wrong or right way to fix the problem but his way was the fastest. I almost grabbed him by his shoulder length hair. I tried to explain that cutting off the bottom of the high-lift track changes the geometry of the lift angle. He told me I didn't know what I was talking about. When I told the regional rep about that exchange he said " SEE, YOU UNDERSTAND THAT !! MOST OF THESE INSTALLERS DON'T !!"Damn John, the hits just keep on coming. I don’t know what to think about our current labor source.
I don’t think training works anymore. This was my yesterday. We’re retrofitting an older CMU constructed jail with new controls and camera system right now. Another words a **** load of new conduit and cores.
Prior to commencement they wanted me to X-ray all the penetrations. I said nope and here’s why...you don’t ever core here nor there and it’s always safe here and here. Ain’t doing it and don’t worry about it........famous last words
So yesterday my newest journeyman obviously didn’t understand “core here or there and nowhere else”. And proceeded to core center of column and luckily only took out a thermostat conduit n wiring. Never mind the device was directly below him and the conduit exited the wall directly above him......none of that mattered.
Needless to say I don’t think he appreciated my showing up at the project at 5 this morning to educate his *******. Now I’ll be spending a few hours today doing damage control.
I coached HS basketball for 17 years. The last few the AD or principal were constantly sticking their noses in to let me know what I was not allowed to say to the kids ( I never used the words we heard from coaches either). Parents had come to complain about me, but not to my face.Ya know the old ways worked when you and I were ******* punks. If belittling didn’t get you inline, it was let’s go out to the street and loser buys a round and let’s go back to work.
Now it’s a **** show of “oh he hurt my feelings”.
