Welcome to Garage Journal!!!

Nice looking garage. I'm jealous for sure.

So any big plans for it or just moving in and using it as is? Add a pool table and it would be a cool party place upstairs.

-painted the floor
-finished the walls in bathroom (need paint)
-moved in a bunch of stuff

on my small to do list....

paint bathroom
put new compressor in bathroom and run air lines into garage
get a 220 line into garage for lift
add some more cabinets / organize

few more pics...floor painted. btw, already peeling up where my car has been. Paid $600 for what I thought was a good product too...

thanks!! funny you say that. I loved the garage but had NO IDEA what to do with the first floor room that was carpeted. Then I was offered a table and its slowly transforming. Has cable so a tv is next along with mounting my darboard and hanging up some pictures

Latest updates are from within the last few weeks....bought a new tool box and started to organize all of my tools and add some new ones

IMG_1836.jpg

IMG_1970.jpg

Then realized I had NO shelves or cabinets besides the small one under the stairs. In the last place I was renting I used the bench to store everything and for one didnt want to do thishere and 2, the bench is too deep to have things against the wall and reach them. I know alot of guys build stuff instead of buy stuff. I didnt want to build wooden shelves and remembered seeing some nice ones are sear and so far I love them and they were priced fairly imo when on sale. Need a tall cabinet to go under the stairs for cleaning supplies which should cover the basics for now. Will grab that on a Xmas sale.

That is a sweet garage! Congrats on finding the place. But what's the story on the catwalk? What was the original owner's use for it? It's cool but not something you see in every shop.

As far as I know he was a carpenter...so Im assuming just materials to put onto his trucks. If you look in this pic the railing closest is about an 8' piece and the rest of the 20' or so is another. That section is removable. And in the middle you can see a cylinder which I would guess had a manual crane to hoist things up there?

or a bunch of things like these

Great Shop, what did you use on the floor?
Mitchell

Car Guys Flooring......came out ok. Waiting 5-6 days before putting my car in there. Was fine until I tried jacking it up with a jack. Jack wheels cracked the epoxy. Then I went racing with the car which can leave a sticky film on the tires and the floor peeled up next time I pulled it out. Followed their directions and a buddy and I did it but just not good enough I guess

That garage has some great features. Nice find.

I was originally looking for a house with room to build. Probably wouldn't have built for a year or two. I wouldn't have done some of the things this setup had and I loved it.

I sure hope they have the foundation and roof seald on the garage. I can only imagine that in a torrential downpour how much water runs down that hill. And God forbid if someone would happen to bust through the guardrail. They really put you down in a hole when they built that place.:scared: I do like it though

That's great! The mezzanine is strange that it goes to to a blank wall, but hey, you can always put in a door. :D

AFA the compressor in the bath, I don't want to be the one sitting on the throne reading an auto mag when the comp starts up. Freaks mu out when I'm right next to mine and it starts out of the clear blue. Not so much when I'm using air.

Very nice layout. I haven't seen one like that before. Great use of space.

Also, I just noticed you were a new member, welcome to the forum.

Not really, but I might have what you need for small parts storage. Check out the web site.

I dont know what kind of work you plan on doing but I HIGHLY do NOT recommend these... i got one for my garage and all it does it collect dust. I do work where i will have air borne particles in my garage... i will no longer buy anything open faced. everything must have doors imo.

Looks like a great place to start as somebody had some big plans before it was sold.

If you put the compressor in the bathroom, make sure it can breathe and have a place to draw air, otherwise you might limit the life of the compressor.

While the gray looks nice on the walls, painting it white 3' and up will brighten it up some much more.

I'd try to use the area under the stairs for the fastener storage. I don't think I would want to go up and down every time I needed a nut & bolt.

Looking forward to more pictures of your progress.

If I had "deeper" storage bins I could use some of the bench. Ill take some pics tonight of its depth.

Under the stairs there is a half cabinet I put some cleaning supplies in. Planned to removed that and put a full cabinet and store car cleaning materials under there but I see what your saying about parts upstairs

so here is what Im talking about....I have quite a few of these right now filled with misc stuff and nuts and bolts and whatnot.

DSC_6609.jpg

the bench is 36" deep so putting them against the wall would make them a pretty far reach to search for a washer or a nut.

under the stairs is this small wall cabinet which im going to replace with a full cabinet in the same spot for car cleaning stuff

DSC_6608.jpg

It leaves a little room under the stairs but I still need a place for a wash bucket and misc cleaning stuff that wont go in the cabinet
