Moved to the burbs from the big city to raise our son (6 y.o.)...
2 car garage is an added bonus for dad! :)

The garage is 20' X 22'. The ceiling height is a nice 11'4'':
I would like a spot for my '53 Chevy pickup:

AND my motorbike collection (10 bikes @ 150 pounds each). I'm thinking of fabricating a 6' X 10' platform that could be raised 6' for clearance. OR I could always go with a 4 post lift?

Has anybody done something similar? A motorcycle storage 'mezzanine'?
I'm open to suggestion, fellas...

Thanks
whizzerick

I don't have 10 bikes that need to raised 6' for cleareance but I do have a lawn mower and lawn equipment I need to put up out of the way during the winter months. I was thinking of purchasing Racor's ProStor Heavy Lift Garage Ceiling Storage to lift the equipment up out of the way.

Perhaps this can give you a few ideas? I'm sure if the braces are fabricated better they could hold a few bikes?

Another idea would be to purchase a lift. Fabricate a plate with pull downs to span across the risers with railing to prevent the bikes from falling off. Instant mezzanine.

I hope I helped,

David

Woah! that 'ProStor' is a good idea for storage above the garage door.

A 2 post lift against the left wall would work.

I also have this option I drew up:

Don't forget to consider the affect of 1500 pounds of load you're placing on those joists and anchor points...

I was thinking of replacing the hand crank with a winch and pulley system that could be lower and raised with a remote control.

I'd just go for a 4-post lift with a full floor on it, why reinvent the wheel? You could mount it sideways in the back left corner of the garage and have two levels of 5 bikes...not to mention it would look pretty cool!

I would get a couple cases of your favorite beverages, invite over some of your friends who are familiar with how YOU work.

Have a brainstorming session: Break it into different parts: ie:
1. What did you like about the last garage
2. What didnt you like about the last garage
3. If cost was no object
4. Set budget limited goals

Gararge looks too small before you even move into it. With all your stuff mentioned looks like a garage build down the road?
