I’ve been working on installing a weil-mcclain gold oil burner for my house and garage. I got the heater and burner as a freebie from a friend who changed over to a natural gas setup. It is only a few years old.
Another buddy is a HVAC guy/plumber, and he’s been advising me on the install from the beginning. He is going to look over all my work and help me fire it up next week, but I want to get some opinions on the best way to wire up my system before I get his opinion on that part. After all my reading, it seems like there is more than one way to do this. I also want to leave my options open for some future expansion to the system I have in mind.
I have a Taco ZVC406 zone controller, a beckett aquasmart aquastat, 1 circulator pump, a beckett burner, and Honeywell zone valves. At this time, I will only be using 1 circulator pump and 2 of the zones, however, I will be adding the following at later dates:
1 garage zone with a hanging heater equipped with a small 1/25 hp fan.
1 heated floor zone (which is my understanding that it will essentially require it’s own circulator of sorts)
Although I may never actually add it, theoretically 1 indirect fired water heater (IF I ever add this, I would more than likely use zone 6 on the Taco controller as a priority zone).
Here’s what I have so far:
Hot leg from service switch to Taco zone controller, and from service switch to aquastat, all landed.
Thermostat wire from thermostats, to taco controller, all landed.
Thermostat wire from taco controller, to each zone valve, all landed.
Whats the best way to power the circulator pump? From the Taco controller? From the aquastat?
Although I’m not hooking it up yet, where would I want to power the garage heater fan from? and the in-floor circulator?
other thoughts on wiring?
Thanks.
