Ingersoll Rand just released their new IR 2235tiMax. Spec says 1,350 ft-lbs of nut busting torques and 930 ft-lbs of reverse torque using a twin hammer impact mechanism, and weighing 4.6 lbs. Sound pretty cool for a 1/2" impact.

I guess I dont like the anvil brake the snap ons have. But thats just a personal choice. I am excited for the new king of the hill!

I've had the MG725 (1/2") with the anvil brake and a 2115QTI (3/8") that doesn't have the anvil brake. I mainly use my impacts for taking off wheels, suspension and brakes and it's really nice when you left off the trigger and the anvil starts to slow down as compared to just letting it spin. In my experience, there's less wobbling of the socket so it's less likely to damage lug nut bores or have nuts or bolts fly off the socket.

Good.
Now the 2135's will start showing up used.
I love being a "Late Adopter" of new technology. Let everyone else work out the bugs, then get it cheap once it's proven, stable, and "obsoleted" by the next shiny new thing! :)

The 2135 won't be going away.

As much as I want the 2235, I might have to wait a while since its price is out of my range, but the $250 Proto gun looks just as impressive (spec-wise).

I know it's not going away, but lots of them are about to hit the used marketplace! :)

Price might come down on the 2135 though, I have 2 of the 1st style earthquakes and I don't use it often, (other one is a back-up) but now I am itching for a 2135ti.
I had one for my personal use at the shop I worked at, but the shop owned it,
It was an awesome wrench.
I am mostly a weekend wrench, just on my own car and motorcycle,
so the impact don't see a lot of use.
Do I "need" a 2135? ...............NO!!
But you know how it is;Right?
Actually the 1st generation EQ has done all I have asked of it.

Most powerful 1/2?

Sent from the sticks

Yes, a rating of 1350 would make it king of the hill right now. There are three that I know of that are at 1300 out there, like Matco MT2769 and Sunex SX4348 and the Nitrocat 1250K . I've used the MT2769, it was crazy strong! Makes me wonder what this will be like.

This tool is definitely king of the hill, no question, I can't wait for people to get it in their hands. As for the 2135 series, there will be some nice changes coming to make it more affordable for those that want the second best impact on the market.

What kind of longevity is expected? DIY vs heavy, heavy use? I'm not talking zipping lug nuts off but actually working the gun hard... Sometimes the 1/2" gun has to do what a 3/4 should be doing just because of size.

Nice changes? More affordable? Are you able to elaborate?

Hopefully this is better than my 2135Ti, I loved it, but it basically doesn't have any power. It was always lubed and greased. Not even used commercially so to speak. Lasted about 9 years.

How is your air system? Compressor size, hose size and length, number of quick disconnects, pressure at compressor, etc?

Same compressor has been used the whole time. 100 psi at the gun, still weak. Tried the shop air at work with no better luck, it is weaker then my 3/8 ti gun running on the same air source. I took it apart and couldn't find any issues. Cleaned, lubed and re-greased hammer portion. No change.

Ironically I posted the above post and yesterday a poster for the new gun showed up at my house yesterday.

So are you an engineer Marlin?

Something is definitely wrong if the 3/8" gun is more powerful with the same equipment.

Looking forward to hearing feedback on this gun. Just sold my 2135 so I can upgrade. The 2235 looks very good on paper!

Hmm... I have a 2135ti for work and a 231ha at home. I like the 231 but like the power of the 2135, been thinking of getting another one for home, but this may just open up another possibility.[emoji57]

Any update on the 2235??

Anybody tried it?

I have a 2135qti and it is on its last leg, after 5-6 year of daily use. And I'm considering the 2235 as my next upgrade.

Review of IR2235 now that is has been out for a while

Reviving an old thread but now that the IR2235 has been out a while what are your thoughts. My local NAPA has them on sale right now for $339.00 with an instant $60.00 rebate bringing it to $279.00.

My 2135 is still going strong but this 2235 has more than my heavy as hell 3/4" drive impact.

Any input from those who have had this gun for a while is welcomed.

Thanks.

Mike.

I personally don't notice a difference between the 2135 and the 2235. Looking back I should have got a 2135Q. But it is a good impact and I do like it. It will not replace the 2145 thou.

Thanks for the comments guys. I picked one up from my local NAPA yesterday. They matched the lowest price I was able to find which was Tooltopia.

Tried it out last night but nothing too heavy duty, just removing a tire/wheel from the wife's Altima. Real tough job to put it to the test.:D

I may play with it this weekend if I get time and see how it compares to my 2135.

Mike.

I have these! Plus a makita btw251.

I've got the 2235qtimax so quieter not as powerful. Apprentice I work with has a snap on mg725.

The ir is heavier I think?? They are very similar really. My 2235 is way more quiet than the snap on. I personally would not buy the snap on due to the noise alone.

Bolt busting. We never really had a comp which one was more powerful but I knew the ir, by the way it took off most fasteners it's a beast. I rarely had to hold the trigger to loosen things, a tap was more than enough. One day I was finishing for the day and he couldn't remove a wheel nut. I told him to wait till the compressor charges up. Again his gun wouldn't undo the nut. I grab my gun while the compressor was still charging I go undo the nut and the ir took it off real easy.
image.jpg

Snapon is definitely smoother. The ir also struggles more when air pressure is low

He grabs the ir when his snapon doesn't work! Supposedly my 10.8v makita impact is more powerful than a Milwaukie m14? Another tool that does the rounds

Hammerhead 2025? Is good in its own way.

But for 90% of the time I can't be bothered with air hose and always go the makita!
