Hi guys. Saw this site mentioned on another board I belong to. Great idea for a site! I see quite a few fellow Mopar nuts here.

My wife and I are renting my Mom & Dad's old house, but plan to buy it soon. It has a 2-1/2 car attached garage with no door into the house. Long story. It's my shop right now - daily cars sit outside. This is less than ideal. We are sitting on an acre lot.

The plan: Workshop/garage in the back yard. Depending on all the PITA regulations, I'm hoping for a 3 car with a little extra depth (26 feet??).

Two possibilities:
1. 8' walls with scissor trusses over one stall. This will give a taller ceiling without affecting the look from outside. The other two stalls would get the trusses that have open space in the middle for storage.

2. 8' walls with a barn-style roof. Lots of height in one stall. A useable attic over the other two stalls. Yes, it has occured to me that my wife may banish me to the "attic" by the time the project is done!

I would probably subcontract the gas/electric run and maybe the slab. Rest will be done by me, and some friends who owe me some favors. Suckers!

Welcome! Sounds like it will be a nice garage when you are done. 3 bays and 26ft deep is gonna be huge. :rocker:

I think I know this guy....Welcome.

I'm hoping to build a 26x36 3 car this summer, if all goes well. 10 walls with scissors over one bay. Sounds like we have similar plans.

Now that my 2 story 3 bay 24X36 is built I wish I would have gone 26 feet deep. My cars fit with no problems, it's just a little crowded towards the front. Also the steps going upstairs had to have a landing to make the turn because I have a door at the top of the stairs leading out to the deck off the house.
I wanted the upstairs to be a full 24X36 and didn't want it to look like a 2 story house. We ended up doing a Mansard roof and I think it looks killer.

Ok, I had to look up "Mansard Roof". Looks really cool - also looks like a tough framing job!

Actually it wasn't such a hard framing job at all. The 2x12's that are the ceiling for the first floor were just extended further out to give a longer than normal overhang. The framing upstairs is normal 2x4 construction. The roof joists just come to the end of the verticle construction and the the section that forms the overhang is put in at an angle. It's wasted space but I like the look and many have stopped to get ideas on their garages.
