From what I gather by looking at the NAPA eRACK catalog is the ratchets with the screws are 38 tooth and the ratchets with the snap rings and the soft grip handles are 90 tooth.

There are no Carlyle 38 tooth ratchets.

The 1" ratchet is 36 teeth, the 3/4" is 40 teeth.

Everything else is 48 teeth and up.

I'm thinking if they're 48 tooth ratchets, then they should have 48 in the part number instead of 38. And that first 90 tooth ratchet with the soft grip, shouldn't even have 38 in the part number; it should have 90 in it only.

And another thing: Why not have the 90 tooth head on BOTH the soft grip AND the steel handle ratchet?

If you look at the 90 tooth ratchet numbers the 38 represents the drive size.

I can't believe we've gone to picking at the part numbers.:wtf:

Iand our rep tells me any older tools that need warranty will be replaced by an equivalent CARLYLE tool. As far as S-K is concerned, i am a big fan, and if their future is in question it is for 2 reasons. (1)- They still dont have good distribution, they need to team up with a national retailer {pep boys} {tractor supply} or wherever. (2) - They still want to give you a hard time with warranty issues, you gotta have brass knuckles, and a picture of their kids at the bus stop, to get them to replace anything.

i talked to the local napa guys today, they said the evercraft tools will be marked carlyle also, to cover low end, and high end buyers. not sure if its totally true or what, but i would not expect a cheap economy napa tool to be warrantied with the good stuff. i can tell ya now, that aint gonna happen.

anyways, they had a wrench set, a screwdriver set, and a socket set, whcih they were sent accidentally. they are sending them back instead of putting them out on the shelf.... they are not even attempting to carry the new line. they feel it will not sell, and is over priced, and will only be available for order at their location.

i took a good look at the wrenches and sockets, the wrenches seem like quality tools, the open end seems a bit over done, but high quality none the less. the sockets were nice, average gearwrench quality comparable from what i could tell. i would buy them and give some of the stuff a spin if the prices come down a bit. i wouldnt pay $130 for the wrench set i messed with today.

What's NAPA gonna do when somebody comes in the store with a worn out soft grip? I'm curious about that.

There's a 38 in the part number because... they're 3/8" drive. The first one is a 90 tooth ratchet.

As for tooth count on comfort vs. polish grip: Wait until January 1st. ;)

We can probably take an educated guess based on the many other companies that have soft grips on their ratchets. What do they do?

Or i can ask for you if nobody else wants to do any research?

Personally, if i used a tool long enough to completely wear out a soft grip, i'd be perfectly ok with buying a new grip.

I don't mind buying a new grip either, but are they available? And are the grips replaceable? Do the grips come off, or are they permanently on there? I got alotta questions about these new Carlyle tools. :D

I got two more questions Mr. Fedwrench:

1. Does the flex joint have a tensioner bolt like the Snap-on does?

2. How's the mechanism feel compared to the Snap-on ?

Is that you Merkava or El tanque prohibido?

1. The flex ratchet has a torx head screw like many other brands.

2. I think it's smoother than the FHF80 I have but, i need to use it for a year or so to find out for sure.

I can ask for you. Just bear in mind that what's available right now is pretty much a "skeleton," so even if the answer right now is "No," that might change within the next 6 months. :)

I might have to go over to my local distribution center and check them out in person. I hope they don't do like MAC does and tell me the handle is on there for good and is not able to be replaced or warrantied. . .

I very much doubt the handles are replacable. On a different note i'd be surprised if MACs warranty service would reject a ratchet for warranty when the cushioned handle is ruined.

I'm not sure about their new cushion handles, but with their previous hard handles, if you ruined it, you had to keep it whether you wanted to or not.

was that your dealers policy? because i can say with an absolute certainty that is not the way their mail in warranty system functions.

Yes that was the dealers policy. The company itself is allot more lenient on warranty exchanges.

Today i got up and serviced a friend's 97 Miata with a Wilwood brake set up F/R and used both a Long flex F80 on the front caliper and carrier fasteners and a NAPA/Carlyle 1/4" drive set with sockets on the rear caliper and carrier and no tools nor ratchets failed/exploded.
None.
Zero
Zip.

Again, the Snap-On worked perfectly. The Carlyle worked perfectly.

How 'bout that.

Muhahahahahaha.

Lies! There was no 1997 Miata...

[edit]: Joke probably works better if I get the year right. *facepalm* The 1998 Miata came out as a 1999.

Please tell me more about how i have a "chic" ride. I like it when my ride is complimented like that.

Oh, sorry... you meant "chick?" If so, please tell me how my Miata is a "chick ride." I wanted a FWD Honda, but i wasn't sure if i could handle the raw power and the awesome understeer. :lol_hitti

I guess it's cause when I see one I think a chick is driving it. Kinda like those newer beatles. They have that petite size and curvaceous fenders. But that just my opinion.

And everyone seems to think Honda's are only "fwd"... They do make rear-wheel drive cars aswell.

When Miatas are set up right, they make good road course and auto-cross cars. I'm not too far up the road from the Summit Point track, and the last time I was there, a 6'3, ~325lb guy was racing a caged Miata. Not quite who you'd expect to hop out of one of those.

EPIC fail.

LOLOLOL.

But correct. No 98 Miata except in Australia.
89-97 = A body
99-2005 = B body
2006 up = C body

BTW----The Torx bolt that holds the flex on my F80 did back out tho. Boo.

Blue Loctite solved that.

Carlysle 1/4" : 1
Snap-On f80 flex: 0

LOL

That must of been quite an accommodating seat.

I'm curious of the quality of these, whether it will be typical Taiwanese quality or somewhere between that and truck brands. Think I'll stop by NAPA tomorrow and see if they have anything in stock yet. From the sound of things they seem to be making a big push for this brand. It would be convenient to be able to walk into a NAPA store to change a tool out instead of waiting for the truck guy to come. Especially if your shop doesn't see a __ guy.

Hmm, these don't look too bad from what I saw in the catalog. Seems to be on par with all of the other Taiwanese offerings like Williams, Blue Point, Matco Silver Eagle, etc.

It does help that there are lots of NAPA stores around, especially since the Craftsman line seems to be losing customers FAST.

Now, if they would have chosen a name other than Carlyle. I read the line about the name being linked to one of the founders, but come on. It's a bit of a stretch.
