my local napa had the wrench sets in stock. they appear to be very nice, but i'm a little concerned about the price point vs. COO. the metric set i inquired about was around $125. that seems a little steep for wrenches coming from taiwan. but then again, my matco infinium stuff came from taiwan and were no cheap tools either. so who knows. well, they are about half the price of the truck brand wrenches, so i guess that's a plus. it'd be nice if they lowered the price when i get ready to buy some good wrenches.

Wonka Wonka Wonka, were on page 7 of the whining regarding price vs coo who cares, if they were sold on a tool truck they'd be the best thing ever.

Copy, just checking and I'm only stating the facts. If it was sold on a tool truck it could be made in Bolivia and be well worth the money anything else is never worthy of owning

I don't agree.

The recently released Mac imported wrenches that look life FACOM and the Matco Silver Eagle tools aren't talked about or hailed very much here.

How much do you read about Blue Point here? Not a ton.

While there are people here who love the truck brands, there are lots of members who like good value in tools, often USA made tools. That's why Wright, Williams and Armstrong seem to get talked about so much, IMO. Tool nerds find some quality tools that can often be had for bargains.

That's why I'm not surprised by the reaction of some people to the Carlyle tools. They look nice, but they sure don't seem to be a value for what they are.

How can you say you don't see the value? Tell me where the value is in a set of 469.00 snap on wrenches equivalent to the Carlyle wrench sets. The value is no different, American made, Taiwan made but yet at the end of the day they seem to do the same job the same way.

You should re-read my post. I didn't say there was value in Snap-On tools. I said there was value in Wright, Williams and some Armstrong.

I'm not one of the tool-truck lovers here. Are they good tools? Yes, but I'm sure not willing to pay tool truck prices.

I guess the same could be said for a $12.99 set from HF.... Obviously Not Everyone needs Snap on Tools, I just think the Price Point is kinda Weird. Who are they trying to compete with?

I'm not trying to argue all I said was that if it was sold on a truck it would be the best thing ever and everyone would want it.

And I said I don't agree and pointed to examples of tool truck tools that are imported and people here don't talk about very often.

In fact, rather than do it all over again, I'll just quote it below...

Not trying to be a jerk, just pointing out that the whole argument is back to where it started. :)

+1...

And Judge please dont take my comments as "Arguing" either, The carlye tools look Great in pictures. Im just leary of these Autopart house brands, They normally come and go and there quality isnt exempt from this pattern.

Well Obviously Napa see's Value in there tools.. Im a little harder to persuade, its sounds like we have some diehard Carlye guys here, Lets see how things are going 5+ years from Now.

I'm not arguing with anyone, if we can't have a friendly debate without people hating on each other then what are we doing. I see good and bad points to these tools, I for one don't care about the coo. I care for longevity and durability.

If their wrenches are so great why are the six points not offset 15 degrees? They are dead on center. There are little inconsistencies in the design of Carlyle tools that would not be excusable for a top truck brand. They haven't been around long enough to command the type of pricing they are proposing. If they don't fix that quickly the brand will not take off.

Interesting question.......

I'd say the price point is on par with wright, s & k, proto etc.

Tool truck brands are more expensive but part of that price is a truck coming to your shop.

Obviously some folks don't like the price, so the best move if you feel this way is don't buy them.
(Last sentence is NOT directed to any person in particular nor the person I quoted)

Ahh...those were some interesting threads to read. :bounce:

This is a good point, but there's one major difference -

-Duralast tools are pretty cheap
-Carlyle tools aren't cheap

You know this to be a fact??

If so why are you on a tool forum?? Your gifted crystal ball abilities should be picking stock futures or at the very least putting Ms Cleo out of business.

I agree with your assertion about pricing and being new to a certain point. (Did I just type that? :wtf: )

I looked at getting a set of 1/2 drive 6pt deep sockets. My cost was a little over 200 dollars. In this instance I felt the price was out of line. I elected not to buy

What would GearWrench cost you in those sizes?

I was looking at a set that went from 3/8 to 1&1/8.

Gearwrench doesn't have all of those sizes but wright and s&K does running around 150 dollars.

Crafty doesn't offer 3/8 and 7/16. 1/2 to 1 inch runs around 45 dollars. Add 1&1/16 and 1&1/8 for another $20.

I have a snappy set but have had that for years but I think that set runs around 450 nowadays.

I've been on a quest on who makes the better socket that doesn't break...Haven't found that yet

Why? He didn't say anything inflammatory.

I actually mentioned that in my first reply, which I accidentally deleted. It is an importnt difference.

I haven't held one yet but, the picture of the 6 point combination appears to have the open end offset at 15 degrees to the boxed end. I'm not sure what your complaint is and since you're not going to buy any, it's a moot point:headscrat

What would GearWrench cost you in those sizes?
A set of 1/2 drive deep chrome 6 point sockets in sizes 10-19 mm would run roughly $48.38 from Gearwrench. The Carlyle set runs into larger sizes than what's offered by Gearwrench in chrome.

I think the point everyone is missing is that NAPA has NEVER
been an inexpensive choice for buying hand tools. Their formally US made Danaher supplied tools were pricey unless on sale. Compare their prices in the current real deals flyer on Armstrong tools to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
Lastly, NO ONE is forcing anyone to buy Carlyle tools. As a country of choices, you can choose to buy whatever brand of tool you care to and can afford.
My original point in this thread was that NAPA has launched a new line of tools. If you're not interested, move on, there's nothing to see here. On the other hand, I think NAPA will sell these tools to many of the techs working in the small independent shops NAPA delivers to daily. Craftsman still has the best warranty, and may continue to sell the sets for pennies on the piece, despite moving production off shore but, for unique sizes and different lengths and styles, Carlyle will be another option especially if you don't have a tool truck visiting your shop. Enjoy your tools regardless of whose name is stamped on them and for those of you that want to bash without owning, :fawk:

The point was about the box end, it's broach is not offset at all, it's on point. I am not complaining, just pointing out an obvious weakness in their design. I am a design engineer, debating designs is a big part of what I do on a daily basis. Whether I buy one or not really is the moot point, not whether their design is sound or not. I feel it's important to debate these types of issues on this forum and you shouldn't get your ******* all in a bunch about it. This thread is not just for people who own these wrenches.

******* are not in a bunch. I'd rather form opinions on a tool from using it, or at least holding it to examine finish, feel, and balance at least. I can't form a through opinion from looking at a picture but, that's just me.

What are you talking about here? I just looked at the 6-point combo wrench and it appears to me that the box end is at an angle to the beam.
