Hey GJ, excited to get this thread started.

I'm Matt. Based in New Orleans. I build electric motorcycles. Slowly. :|

Intro thread here.

I'm leaving a 265 sqft L-shaped shop (one-car plus a lil' extra) for this new 20' by 20' in my backyard.

What happens in the shop right now:
  • convert gas motorcycles to electric
  • bike maintenance, including electrics
  • digital fab (3d, laser)
  • welding and light metalwork (220 mig and tig)
  • some photo and video
  • home office, lots of zoom

Things on my mind for the new shop:
  • We're jam up on the property line here in Uptown on three neighbors, so sound's a bigger deal than it used to be.
  • Room for some more metal work, lathe, mill maybe.
  • Need to work out of the same space, so office with video conferencing and maybe some client visits needs to fit in the same space.
  • Need to manage dust and metal slag as always.
  • Want to do a little more woodworking than I have in past, mostly to be able to build out the shop.
  • Probably need to keep air compressor and vac inside instead of out - neighbor sound.

Excited to get this underway. Want to thank many for the encouragement in so many of these threads. Game on.

what are the specs on the 2 bikes? loved the fly through, that was unexpected

as far as layout, looks like you have no room to go but up. think about how you can use the 2ft from the ceiling to your benefit. the trick is to do it and not make it feel claustrophobic

if noise is an issue, you'll want to put the highest noise activities as far as possible form the property line, and away from (and not in a direct line of sight to) the door, windows.
