I am in the market for anew set of regulators, and hose, for a full size rig. The acetylene tank is a vertical flat top with a CGA 510 valve.

Anyway, I want good quality regulators (no plastic knob things), and a good hose (that wont crack). If there is a good quality kit available, I wouldnt mind having another handle too.

As of now, I was looking at

Opinions?

Thanks!

I guess I am confused, normal for me.

I have no input on that set. I purchased the smith set that is similar to that, but the price was higher.

Or are you confused?

I already have that torch, in that thread. Was just trying to find the correct mixer for it. Now, I need new regulators (i currently have junk cheap plastic ones which are missing the lenses on the gauges and such), also want a longer hose. While looking at new regulators, I noticed while buying two regulators is one cost, buying the kit w/ a torch is not a terrible amount more. Then I have a spare torch as well.

Sorry for the confusion.

Mind linking the smith set you have?

I bought this set recently. U.S. made Smith 2-stage regulators for more precise metering.
I am gonna use it for **** welding sheetmetal to go along with my new Victor torch.

Fyi I do own a mig welder with argon gas but want to learn a better method.^

Depending on what you plan on doing, you could get by on the Smith single stage units. They are cheaper.

I like the look of the single stage 30 series, and the price. What is the advantage of a dual stage regulator?

Kunkernator, the set I have is not in production any more. I did find one like it, but she is priced high. I think they have a smaller set that is around $400. I would honestly look for used sets, you can find high quality ones. If they don't leak, great, if they do leak, then either rebuild them or pay to have it done.

More consistent flame without having to keep readjusting plus these are more accurate for the lower pressures 3-5# I plan on running.

This is from the description on the webpage. "Extremely Accurate - accurate within +/- 2% of actual gauge reading for both pressure regulators and flowgauges"

That kit mentioned above by Strouty looks nice also.

I really like the look of that. I would say that is a bit better quality than "Northern Tools house brand" I am going to poke around cyberweld a bit more.

Thanks for the explanation man, and yes, I do like Strouty's kit.

I didn't read all of the replies, BUT.....to me, that ad for the set from Northern is misleading. I don't believe those are Victors. If you read between the lines, it states VICTORtm - STYLE, meaning they are like a Victor, but are not actually Victors. And they throw the Trademark in there to make it look more legit, while all the more deceiving.

If I was going to get a good set, I would get a set of Smith, Harris, or Victors. If you can't find something new in your price range, look on CL for used, and send them in for a rebuild.

I have a set of NAPA regulators on my tanks right now, and they are almost identical to my set of Harris regulators.
