Serious answer - I'll assume that would depend on the company/union they work for.. Or if it's just their personal preference.. Some places, like mine, are required to buy certain tools, through certain outlets. For safety reasons, the company is required to provide its workers with tools, and not many are made in America, although they all meet certain safety requirements. My job is considered very dangerous, so the few things we have are all quality, regardless of origin. Also, with budgets always being cut, people constantly steeling equipment, many times I'll buy little things here and there just to make my life easier, even though I shouldn't have to.. So instead of having one adjustable wrench to use, I'll go buy 4 HF composite ratchets and the 4 different sockets I need from HD just to make my day to day faster and easier..
Persoanlly, for home, craftsman, husky, and Irwin do fine by me.. Non essentials like extra ratchets, longer wrenches, and stupid things that I wouldn't be able to justify spending serious money on, HF does fine for the few times I will use them if ever... I don't buy power tools from them though. I will always pick a good brand, even if I buy it used.
Listen I get the whole "made in America" thing, and it's a shame things have gone so far down hill.. But that's compaies wanting to make more money, or just remain competitive. Furthermore - buying used snap on tools from ebay aren't doing much at all for our economy. At least buying SOMETHING new helps give someone a job all the way from the guy unloading the boat it came in on, to the kid that stocked it on the shelf and HD OR HF and everyone in between.
