http://m.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-38-in-Drive-Quick-Release-Flexible-Head-Ratchet/3387120 Not really that much more and far superior to me anyway. Same mech, QR, and no wonky handle. I hate comfort grips. For an extra 10 bucks that one is well worth it to me, even with the same mech. Head is smaller, finish is better, detents so it isn't floppy as heck and you don't need to rebuild it before you use it.
It actually twice the price after coupon - $15 vs. $30 - and about a $16.50 difference after tax

gotta keep ya straight on the math! ;)

And I got my Kobalt flex head for 15 bucks on sale. Try that math.

You can add 80 miles round trip to one of three HF's closest to me too. Work pays me 49¢ a mile so you can add another 40 bucks to the price of that HF ratchet. [emoji12]

Twice the price, though. 19.99 - 25% = $15 vs $30.

Not sure what you mean by "finish is better". The finish I've seen on these HF rats has been surperb.

I'd be very interested if there is something better for the money. I'm putting together toolboxes for two enclosed trailers. I've already decided I'm not putting top line stuff in them. They would be too easily stolen or lost.

More than likely ANY 72 tooth overseas ratchet is being produced in the same factories as these.. With a 25% off coupon, it's pretty much impossible to find a better deal than these.. The quality is there, so long as you treat it like the tool it was meant to be..

I have fondled about 10 of them and none were anywhere close to what I'd call superb.

I just don't understand you guys and saving less then a meal for two at McDonald's when the end result is **** and you guys go on and on about how to fix the deficiencies the so called good value has.

Look at the product, look at the deficieciencies, look at the mile long list of issues with other HF products. Good lord the handle doesn't even go to the end, the plastic will eventually break and you will slam into something when it does.

If you want to save 10 bucks and end up with **** then so be it. I would much rather spend 10 bucks more and get something better. It's 10 bucks, not 50 or 100. I would sure as heck think anyone here could justify that.

Anyone here is better than that.

And I would "sure as heck" think that you could understand that your preferences are not always the same as other people's. You don't like the comfort handle, others do. You like detents on the flex, other's don't. You prefer QR, other's don't. Calling something "****" because it's not what you prefer is just stupid.

You guys are talking about how to rebuild the thing to make it actually work and the fact that the handle doesn't go all the way to the end. That isn't my description of ****, that should be everyone's description of ****.

Some people want to change how it works a bit. Nothing strange about that around here.

As for the handle, doesn't seem to be an issue. Have you seen the video of the guy putting a long pipe on the end and giving it everything he has? Handle was just fine. You can define "****" however you want, but your definition seems to be pretty bigoted.

the HF is not as nice as the Snap-On equivalent, I own both. but the Snap-On was clearly the inspiration, though. and at 15% of the price, it is maybe 85% the ratchet the Snap-On is, the HF falls short in few areas such as handle comfort and tooth count, although the HF wins in head thickness, overall a great ratchet at a great value price!

The reason is because the second anyone suggests that something is a good "alternative" to SO, egos get hurt because people didn't spend good money to have "the best" just so you could walk in here and point out how a ratchet that cost 1/10 the price will turn a bolt just as well.. It's the old " I'm better than you cause I paid more, and I'll never admit otherwise"

Moderators probably should close threads like this, if anything to prevent this behavior from being accepted here in the future. Which will ultimately lead to a more respectable demeanor among members over time.

I think part of the reason these ratchets are so polarizing is the hype over them. Even before anyone even had touched one people were claiming greatness and acting like these would put the Dual 80 factories out of business. Add that to the typical trolls on this site and this is what resulted.

i cant believe obama hasnt come out and said that if he had a ratchet, it'd look like the one from HF
